^Its pretty clear who does not understand basic written english here. There is a difference between "trying to disassociate themselves from the terrorists" and "feel obligated to dissociate themselves from the terrorists".

Apparently, as the quotes (and countless other opeds and pieces) posted above would indicate, many do feel as though they are being obliged to actively demonstrate their patriotism.
