Tarsem Singh, makes waves in hollywood

After Shekhar Kapoor and Manoj Night Shyamalan, another Indian-born director, Tarsem Singh, is making waves in Hollywood with his maiden Directoral venture, ‘The Cell’.

Tarsem’s film, a psychological thriller that delves into the mind of a demented serial killer, grossed over 17.5 Million Dollars in the first week of its release, topping the U.S Box office charts. Over the years Tarsem, known for his dreamlike, quasi-religious video for REMs 1991 single, ‘Losing my Religion’, which won him MTVs best video Award, has proved his skills in many different genres of visual media.

His visual meandering has resulted in an impressive body of work that has won many awards, including the Directors Guild of America Award for Best Commercial Director of 1996. ‘The Cell’ is his maiden directorial venture. The film has an FBI agent Peter Novak, played by Vince Vaughn, following a trail of bodies in course of his efforts to track down and capture a distrubed serial killer Carl Stargher, a role played by Vincent D’Onofrio
