Re: Indian: Hey are you Indian?
Me: Nah man I’m Pakistani.
Indian: Oh yea same thing. =)
NO, crackerjack. It’s not the same thing.
There’s a lot of Indians in the area that I live in. I’m not prejudiced against them or any of that nonsense - I have a handful of Indian pals. But on countless occasions when I have come across an Indian and they feel inclined to ask me if I’m Indian, and I’ve responded that I’m Pakistani, some will say “oh yea same thing”. I appreciate the effort they are making to mend the broken relationship between Indians in Pakistanis, but I think that for having our forefathers fight and die for our country and eventually winning our independence and becoming a seperate nation, the least they could do is acknowledge the fact that Pakistan is not the “same thing” as India. Our culture is nearly the same but our principles (Pakistani’s being based on Islamic teachings) are very different and it is that what truly defines a person.
So, no. It’s not the same thing.
If thats coming from HS students/non-desis, i wouldn’t dig that deep into it. they just don’t know better. if its coming from uncles… i’d wonder why a strange uncle is talking to a HS girl
