Indian Dalits are at the lowest level in the hindu caste system. These are the type of jobs that they get in India
Re: Indian dalits and what they do for a living
if they study then they do get gud jobs. Plenty of my friends are so called dalits and they work for gud companies.
BTW what we need to discuss?
Re: Indian dalits and what they do for a living
^ pardon the ignorance, but are they allowed to even study? aren't dalits considered "unclean" and that they wud never be allowed to advance?
Re: Indian dalits and what they do for a living
no auntyji. Those were old days ..old bole to early 1900's.
I dont say such practice has fully eradicated..might still be practiced in few villages but overall in last few decades things have changed considerably for them. And BTW if they are declined admission in any school becuase of their being dalit they can file a police complaint againt such school.
Re: Indian dalits and what they do for a living
im not aunty ![]()
Re: Indian dalits and what they do for a living
Don't about rest of India but in Punjab, "Dalits" mainly from Chamar and Chura caste comprise 33% of the population.
These days the Dalits run everything in Punjab and Jats, Rajputs, Gujjars etc respect their power.
The most highly decorated indian army unit is the Sikh Light Infantary and this is composed 100% of Dalit Sikhs.
Re: Indian dalits and what they do for a living
whoever is married is aunty and uncle for me.![]()
Re: Indian dalits and what they do for a living
Sikhs can also be Dalits? Interesting.
Re: Indian dalits and what they do for a living
well castism prevails in india in all religions.. not only hinduism but also in sikhism and islam. some things die hard....
this is one social evil we need to take care of. it is decreasing though.. its non existant in cities but in rural areas it still matters a lot.
Re: Indian dalits and what they do for a living
Caste exist in Sikhs: yes.
Almost 60% of Sikhs are from the Jatt caste.
Ramgarhia are Sikhs from the Tarkan or Lohar caste.
Ravidassia/Ramdasia Sikhs are from Chamar caste
Mazabhi Sikhs are from the Chura caste.
Cheemba Sikhs are from the Darji caste
Then you have Khatri Sikhs, Lubana Sikhs, Kamboj Sikhs, Rajput Sikhs, Julaha etc etc
But caste in Punjab is different from other parts of India.
There was no such thing as untouchbility and because Sikhism preaches equality relations among all castes were good.
Ofcourse, the dominant caste was and still is Jatt Sikhs but these days "Dalit Sikhs" are equally dominant based on their high population, because huge numbers of Dalit Sikhs live in UK, USA, Canada, Middle East, and almost every Dalit Sikh has family members in the army or police.
Hindus have always been a minority in Punjab.
Muslims and Sikhs both treated the hindus badly.
Brahmins were used mainly as servants and cooks and the bahman/bania are despied.
There are virtually no hindu temples in rural punjab.
Re: Indian dalits and what they do for a living
For example in New York, there are 3 Sikh Gurudwaras:
Singh Sabha Gurudwara: Run by Jatt Sikhs
Makhan Shah Lubana: Run by Lubana Sikhs
Ravidass Gurudwara: Run by Chamar Sikhs
