Indian Cuisine vs Pakistani cuisine

Re: Indian Cuisine vs Pakistani cuisine

^ it may be that perception as u said, but then they shdn't go to any restaurants for that matter that serve meat! whether or not they realise it, it's a mindset some ppl have.

i had this idiotic girl who made a fuss abt eating at my place coz i cook meat... even tho i kept separate vessels to cook her food in... but she'd eat out at restaurants everyday. go figure..

as far as indian and pakistani places being clean.. i've never seen any difference between north indian and pakistani places, and i don't differentiate between them... but every genuine pure vegetarian south indian resto i have ever been to, i've always found extremely clean. i'm talking abt those udupi style restaurants... the decor may be spartan but the place exudes cleanliness.

as far as food - i'm indian while my fiance is pakistani.. i love pakistani food and relish the meat dishes, while he finds pakistani cuisine too heavy on the stomach to eat daily, and prefers indian vegetarian equally. i guess it's a welcome change for both of us. i was introduced to the wonderful world of nihari and paaye; while he says taht until he tasted my cooking, he never knew vegetables could be so delicious..

Re: Indian Cuisine vs Pakistani cuisine

A lot of muslims do not like to go to indian resturants as they fear......

1- Eating non-halal meat or contamination of non-halal/zabiha meat if meat is served there.
2-Unusual and un-attractive taste and smell.
3-No regard to Paaki or Na-Paaki including regular washing hands.
4-Potential threat of cow urine in certain food items.

Re: Indian Cuisine vs Pakistani cuisine

If this is the true reason then I find it reasonable. I mean I don't eat at an American restaurant where there may be the possibility of contamination with pigs/non zabihah meats. I remember that there was an uproar over McDonald's French fries being cooked in oils contaminated with beef.

Just out of curiosity, would an Indian Hindu eat meat from pigs? I know that many Sikhs in the US don't have a problem with it.

Re: Indian Cuisine vs Pakistani cuisine

We have lot of Indian friends.
Some are strictly veg others are modern...love our curry chicken etc.
I cook at their place and they at ours.....we are close.
I think, my friend Krishna being brahmin....loves to dine with us.
I was told by her, she finds our veg dishes much more tasty....
Often we have lot of side dishes to veg. dishes to make it more yummy...
salads
own home made pickles
venegar pickles
starters...samosay with spinach and ricotta cheese

I knew how to prepare cheese guftay......

Ive been to various Pakistani and Indian restaurants...nothing about lack of clealiness. and btw, Indians get proteins by soya products much more protein rich than meats....
I make simple tofu with pakistani masala....its yummy and healthy.
Kinda best from both cuisine. Am travelling to India in Nov, and its alrite not to have meat for a period. Of caz, there are options....

Re: Indian Cuisine vs Pakistani cuisine

What is their problem? They are guests in India, and guests have to abide by certain rules. Doesn't our mazhab teach us this? Doing without meat for a couple of days out of respect for the cook while you're travelling and gaining opportunities for world-wide fame is not so hard.

In all honesty, the Pakistani fascination for meat is very sickening. Adding in some veggies and daals into our daily diet is something that many of us need.

The idea that beef gives you aggression in sports - what nonsense.

Re: Indian Cuisine vs Pakistani cuisine

Who says there is 'Pakistani fascination for meat"?? There is no such thing.
Its just that they are more careful when it comes to meat. They like all meat and non-meat containing food items like anyone in this world.

I think we can use the word "nonveg" instead of the word "modern". Nothing modern about eating meat plus eating strictly vegetable dishes is very healthy. I would be in the category of nonveg(chicken and fish) Indian Hindus:). But personally I don't think I could eat chicken everyday...need those veges once in a while.

I've actually tried quite a lot of the Pakistani Shan recipes and they are quite good like the "Karahi(sp) chicken with white sauce" and their Bombay Biryani powder is better than some of the other brands that i've used. Need these when I get sick of eating my own dishes everyday:D

We had a Pakistani couple that lived in our neighborhood and the woman used to bring over some of her chicken dishes for us to try. she was so sweet.
