Indian Channels Banned in Pakistan

Well I guess most of you guys have heard that Mussharraf has banned all the Indian channels in Pakistan. Thats probably the best thing he did since coming into power.
I applaud him for that!
Well I guess thats probably good for Pakistani entertainment, now they will get all the attention in Pakistan, and so on there movies will get better with the bigger budget.

Thank you, come again

hmmmmmmmm!
I dont think by doing such things you will be able to stop people from watching Indian media. There are Indian movies available everywhere.

I think to beat India in this war, we need to improve our movies, our programming. look at PTV, its pathetic! But I am not saying they arent improving! We have competition for the Indians now channels like Indus TV

...and ARY Digital, and Prime-tv, and Indus music...

I think that banning the Indian channels was not done to help boost our entertainment industry - it was to block Indian propaganda.

I think PTV is doing a great job. Some of the dramaz do suck, granted, but there is a great amount of headway being made.

Also, alot of people are now appreciating Paki entertainment, cuz their attention has been diverted from Indian entertainment to Pakistani. The Indian obsession in a lot of households had grown to such an extent that the Pakistani media was NEVER turned, so now that they are turning on the Paki channels, they are beginning to see and appreciate what had been there all along!

Insha'allah, quality will grow better at PTV - I think they realize that they ought to be taking advantage of this time, since many more Pakistanis are tuning in.

Prime TV, you call it quality channel?!?!?!?!?!

Whats wrong with it?

You may not usually see naked women, and that is quality.
If you think showing vulgar and nonsense is quality then go to a doctor.

Thank you, come again

Alibeta, I'm interested. What is it about PTV that peeves you off?

Hey dont get me wrong! I pay my 15 dollars to get PTV. As I want to support Pakistani entertainment. But watching old Pakistani movies all the time and tialwat 4 hours a day isn't exactly my idea of entertainment!

The announcers like Irum Hassan are Indian Vj wanna bes. The dramas are pathetic. They have gone the Indian way to show stupid stuff like glamour and forgotten about quality.

We need more serials like Tanhaaiyan, Dhoope Kinaray, Fifty Fifty. Look at the programs, right now they are just pathetic!

May be they should allow Indian channels and keep track of who watches them instead.
Good way of identifying RAW agents don’t ya think?

What will be the difference then between Indians and Pakistanis then? I mean we aren't the ones who blame everything on ISI agents!

By the way this forum is not for discussing politics so stick with the entertainment stuff Andhra!

The move to ban indian channels was to stop the free flow of Indian war propaganda from reaching masses of Pakistan. This is only done via cable cz this is the only thing government can actually control. Those who still wish to listen to Indian viewpoint can log onto the internet, listen to All India Radio or just switch to satellite dish.

The idea was not to stop people from watching indian movies, dramas etc. You can still rent them from movie stores.

However the discussion about Pakistani dramas and movies is interesting. Carry on.

If India broadcasts Propaganda, I say let them! People of Pakistan know better whats going on.

On the other hand, we are loosing the wars of culture. I think its just wrong that on one end you ban Indian channels but you can then listen to Indian music in every single household in Pakistan.

We are being brain washed by Indians. We want to look like Sharukh and dress as Hritik. Its not only the general public. Its our television even MOSTLY movies who spread this menace. I mean look at it, we cant even think of original names and our movies are even titled after Indian movies. Its just pathetic.

I am not saying that there is anything wrong with cultural fusion. I love Indian music but then I am not in favour of banning Indian channels at all!

I think this is a point where you and the Government of Pakistan (and in fact many folks on this board) may disagree.

The people of Pakistan should not be left to determine what is right or wrong. They should only be told what the government wants them to know. The people (you and me excluded) don't have time to watch multiple sources of information and then make their minds. They need simple, direct propaganda. Not confusing contradictary statements from PTV and Zee TV.

Discontinuing access to spread war propaganda is an old strategy which has stood the test of time. With new advances in communication technology (internet, dish etc) it is becoming increasingly difficult, but nevertheless, governments still try to limit access to information. Its true not only in Pakistan, but everywhere.

From Saudi Arabia which banned dish (except if you are a royal family member), to USA stopping Al-Jazeera or Osama videos on US networks... every government in the world will limit access to free flow of information in the time of a conflict.

By the way Dish banne din Sudia is not because of propaganda but they dont want to spead Fahaashi in Saudia. And Al Jazeera is broad casted openly in the US!

I like the argument.

Frankly, I dont think there is anything wrong with Pakistani entertainment. If anything, they’re livening it up a little- which is a good thing. Insha’allah, our entertainment industry will get better. Already new talent is being pumped thru Pakistani private channels, so dont lose hope. True, a lot of our dramas have lost the old quality, but every now and then you’ll see a really good one. PTV knows that this is the time, when Indian channels are banned, to pull back the PAKI audience, and hopefully they wont disappoint. At least, by drama reviews it seems they’ve upped their quality.

The problem has now become a lack of educated producers and directors - a whole bunch of actors and actresses are getting up and making dramas as if they know what they’re doing (with good exceptions of course). I just hope that our televisoin doesn’t end up in the haal that the paki film industry is in right now.

The banning is simple: to stop the Indian propaganda, and dont tell me that there is no political influence from the Indian media on the Pakistani population. If there is cultural influence, then there is definitely political influence as well.

If we hate India so much, then I dont think Pakistanis should have a problem with giving up Indian entertainment for this tense time. We Pakistanis can’t even show some support for our country by boycotting Indian media. Meanwhile, the Indians dont seem to miss Paki entertainment…

Well we certainly don’t.
By the way I am constantly amused at the way Paks seem to hate Indian Movies and watch more Indian Movies to hate them even more.
Seems to be an infinite loop

Seriously I would really contribute if Paks or any other group of people start a movement to ban Bollywood movies for the sake of Humanity’s sanity and survival

The thing what bothers me is Andhra, I am assuming that you arent a big fan of Pakistan and the whole idiogy of Pakistan. What the hell are you doing here? Why dont you quit coming to the official Pakistan website. The same implies to you whatever you mentioned above.

By the way I dont hate Indian movies! I just think its wrong copying them. There should be originality. And that implies to both Pakistan and India. Where we copy India, people usually critisize our artists of doing so, unlike India where people are totally ignorant about Pakistani stuff.
