A woman has been arrested in India over allegations she sacrificed an 11-year-old boy to appease the gods and reap a better harvest.
Barti Devi, 70, was arrested at her home in the eastern state of Bihar after villagers spotted the head and hands of a missing boy in a nearby field.
The boy, Golu Kashuaha, had been missing since October 23 in a village about 25 miles south of the capital Patna.
Police said their investigations showed he had been kidnapped by Devi’s family, who are also related to the boy.
He was taken to a temple where his head was shaved and he was then sacrificed in a nearby field, police said.
“The boy’s body parts were strewn across the field and the killers have confessed they were convinced the sacrifice would ensure a good harvest,” director-general of police Abhay Upadhyaya added.
Police are now searching for the rest of Devi’s family which has fled the area, he added.
In rural India, dozens of young boys and girls are sacrificed each year by superstitious villagers who think a human sacrifice can help them grow better crops, bring prosperity or ward evil off, police say.
Ignorance is not an excuse is it? Ignorance is nt an excuse to break the law. I doubt there is anyone ignorant enough in this day and age in a country like India that thinks that human sacrifice is all cool and all.
and the beatdown will help figure out were the are getting this lame stuff from so you can nip it in the bud and similar things are not repeated in future.
You are right. Ignorance is not an excuse. But there are many people in the world that live with very bizarre beliefs. It's like saying that a mentally challenged person should be executed for murder....you can't do that.
Now.....if there are folks around this mentally challenged person that could have affected the outcome of the circumstances, then by all means, try them with some sort of crime too. But capital punishment would be going too far.
wait a sec, a mentally challenged person is not the same as somone who just has a set of beliefs that go counter to the law. now they must pay for their deeds. They killed an innocent boy, are u sueggesting that they should not be punished to the extent of law?
Ppl can have bizzare beliefs and ideas, and they are wlecome to it, unless and until they start hurting ppl around them.
the beatings to find out the source of this nonsense so it can be nipped in the bud. If there are non beating-oriented ways of doing so, do that instead.
Now.....if there are folks around this mentally challenged person that could have affected the outcome of the circumstances, then by all means, try them with some sort of crime too. But capital punishment would be going too far.
There is no excuse for such behaviour, your logic is flawed.
A mentally challenged person would not understand what, why and consequences of this kind of crime.
But on the other hand these people knew;
What: They knew it's crime thats why the family members ran away.
Why: There believe in personal gain at the expense of a life.
Consequences: They perfectly well knew the consequences this is the reason they are running from police now.
Sickening but I'm not surprised. A lot worse has happened over the centuries in India due to cultish religion and still happens to this day in the rural areas.
**Almost similar acts happening in the civilized West as well, over million midterm babies(fetuses) are sacrificed to the "God of LUST" each year...:( **
