The chances of Darrell Hair officiating in the Champions Trophy appear to have receded substantially with the news that the Indian board has written to the ICC asking that he not be allowed to stand during the tournament.

**“Yes, we have written to the ICC,” a senior BCCI official told Cricinfo. “There may be some unseemly incident as he is already in a controversy.” **

The fact that ICC have delayed naming the umpires for Champions Trophy due to start in India on October 7, points to behind-the-scenes rumblings.

An ICC spokesman told Cricinfo last Wednesday that the names of officials would be revealed “within 24 hours”. **But with India, the host nation and cricket’s commercial powerhouse, formally backing Pakistan’s demand that Hair be barred from officiating at the tournament it looks unlikely that the ICC will choose appoint him. **

Earlier this month Hair told reporters that he was “down to umpire in the Champions Trophy and I expect to fulfil that appointment,” adding: “I’m not sure what matches I’ll be doing but I’m looking forward to it.”’ It now seems that statement was premature, and indeed may have only served to rile some of those who have stood behind him so far.

**Given the way that the ICC board members usually operate, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Zimbabwe will, in all probability, support India and Pakistan should it come down to an executive vote, and it is therefore hard to see how the ICC could name Hair without there being extremely serious ramifications. **

Re: Indian board opposes Hair standing in Champions Trophy

when will pcb learb to take bold stances like bcci.... :(

Re: Indian board opposes Hair standing in Champions Trophy

Talking of taking bold stances, I think Tauqir Zia was better than Shahryar in that regard.

Re: Indian board opposes Hair standing in Champions Trophy

If there was one time PCB took any bold step it was against Hair. They have already written letters to ICC that they will not accept in Pakistani games and chances are that even if he is included in ICC umpire’s panel, he will not officiate Pakistan’s games. how bold of a step you want? want PCB to hire a killer?

Right or wrong, PCB has already burned their boats on this issue :k: and others are joining the PCB and not the other way round.

Anyway a very welcome step from Indian board. I can smell Jagmohan Dalmiya

Re: Indian board opposes Hair standing in Champions Trophy

dalmiya does not have a say in BCCI anymore...its Pawar and Dungarpur who call the shots

Re: Indian board opposes Hair standing in Champions Trophy

Re: Indian board opposes Hair standing in Champions Trophy

icc is not gonna give a rat's a$$..i think speed should lose his job...hes acted like an arrogant white zombie....its upto the directors in the icc to bring on some serious changes

Re: Indian board opposes Hair standing in Champions Trophy

Yeah i know, in fact BCCI is after Dalmiya but the was BCCI wrote letter to ICC reminded me of Dalmiya

Re: Indian board opposes Hair standing in Champions Trophy

Good job PCB to convince BCCI to write this letter.

ICC is acting like an out of control elephant, totally disregarding wishes of its test nations. ICC is composed of test nations and associate members. For ICC Chairman to make statements like, "we don't care what test nations want, we will do what we want", is downright stupid. As someone else put it aptly, he is acting like a zombie. I'd go a step further to say, he is a big moron!

From Day 1, I have said it many times, that Pakistan should play the non-white card against Hair. They should spend all their time to lobby BCCI, Sri Lankan Board and all other Asian and African countries along with West Indies. Lets see if Aussies, Pomies and New Zealanders can make their own little white league without the rest of us.

Say good bye to Hair. Bari buri ho rahi hay us kay saath. Hor lay Inzi nal punga.
