Indian-Americans most upwardly mobile

WASHINGTON: Indian-Americans are one of the most upwardly mobile immigrant communities in the United States, and though their precise number is not known, it is believed to be at least three times more than that of Pakistanis.

According to one estimate, there are 3.22 million Indians in America — 1.5 percent of the population..

The co-founder of Sun-Microsystems, one of the top technologies companies in the country, is Vinod Khosla, an Indian, as is the man who created the Pentium chip, Vinod Dahm.

According to a report in Fortune magazine, the third richest man in the world is Azim Premji, an Indian. The founder and creator of Hotmail, the world’s leading web-based e-mail programme, is an Indian by the name of Sabeer Bhatia.

The president of AT&T Bell Laboratories is also an Indian named Arun Netravalli, while the general manager of Hwelett-Packard, an American technology giant, is Rajiv Gupta, another Indian. The testing director of Microsoft Corporation is Sanajay Tejwrika, an Indian. The chief executive of Citibank Victor Menezes is also Indian.

According to another estimate, 12 percent of US scientists are Indian. Indians make up 36 percent of NASA scientists, 34 percent of Microsoft employees and 28 percent of IBM employees.

Yes we should learn from our Indian pals. We might laugh at their geekery but it pays off in the long run.

A few big names means nothing. The important thing is the avg. per/capita income of Indian Americans, which is the highest in the land.

Yes..Indian-Americans are richest Ethnic group in USA.

They know how to scrounge..live in less..and save a cent..they may be geeks but economics wins the game in the end...I know they have more in their bank accounts have ways and means of understanding and beating this system and taking full advantage of it...Pakis cannot get of their ana ka khacchar....we find it an insult to take tokens or stuff thats actually the right and they dont mind..period...so give the devil its due.....:)

Saving rates do not equate with percapita income. The chinese are notorious savers, but have little to save from.

Remember we all look Indian or refered as Indian. I am not sure if all of the 28% are Indian. I work here in IBM and we have several indians, Pakis, Sri Lankans and Bungalis working here and I am sure are counted as Indains.

Yar NYA, What do I do, I still love India, My parents and their Parents were born there. Actually it's more then 28% I think I am 90% percent Indian or If I ask my Office mate, I am 100% DAMN INDIAN..........
