India warned against ‘hasty’ Siachen withdrawal

NEW DELHI: Policymakers have warned the Indian government against a ‘hasty’ withdrawal of the armed forces from Siachen Glacier.
Ahead of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s visit to Siachen on Sunday, a closed-door discussion organised by think-tanks Observer Research Foundation and the Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis, army officers, diplomats and analysts admitted that Siachen had little strategic significance, but felt that India should not withdraw troops from its present positions, until the Actual Ground Position Line was converted into a mutually agreed Line of Control (LoC)…
