Re: India v Sri Lanka, CB Series, 8th ODI, Adelaide
the pitch was slow, boundaries incredibly big, it was was going to be pretty difficult to hit harbhajan out of the park (which they tried and failed). and with his experience he was a good bet which paid off.
he does back his players, but hes not afraid to pull the plug when they dont perform
If you think about it, you can justify and rationalize just about any decision.....esp one that did not backfire.
But everybody knows...that its easier to tonk a spinner in the last over of the ODI than a pacer. Also, it was not as if Harbhajan was bowling particularly well. Munaf had bowling figures of 9-2-38-1 and Harbhajan 9-0-50-0 *at that point *.
I am not much of a conspiracy theorist....but in this occasion I have a suspicion that Dhoni was giving Harbhajan a chance to have a wicket against his name.
This "buddy-ism" was also evident when Kumble held back the declaration until Dinesh Karthik had scored a pointless half-century on the last day of the Bangalore Test against Pakistan recently. The team for Australia was to be selected later that day and Karthik had a rotten series until then, and it was quite possible that Parthiv Patel would have been selected in his place. Karthik (like Harbhajan) is said to be a "popular" member in the team. And we all know how costly that late declaration proved for India.

ur point applies to this statement as well - If you think about it, you can justify and rationalize just about any decision
but the fact is some decisions can be better rationalized, like i said it was a slow pitch and big boundaries, if i was a batsmen, i would be hoping he brought munaf on for the last over so i can have some pace to work with and munaf bowled most of his spell with the new ball when the ball was doing something, not the case in the last over
anyways makes sense to me but there will always be people on opposite sides of the fence no matter what the decision
Re: India v Sri Lanka, CB Series, 8th ODI, Adelaide
^ Yaar Pidbull...generally speaking I am quite satisfied with Dhoni's captaincy....but some of his bowling changes in the last 2-3 games have been perplexing....also his choice of players in the team.
btw, Yuvraj failed in 2 ODIs (I don't count the short game against SL where he got only a few balls) and it became headline news, I am wondering how many games Uthappa/Harbhajan will have to fail in before they get similar attention.
Re: India v Sri Lanka, CB Series, 8th ODI, Adelaide
How about raina in place of Praveen kumar. Atleast Raina had more experience than kumar, doesnt he deserve a place ahead of kumar. Besides I am pretty sure that raina would have batted better than Kumar.Assuming he was taken as an alrounder.
I also agree with some1, bhaji should be rested and piyush should get a chance.

I think dhoni is comfortable with some people in the team than others. And if he goes by it for far too long then he would find himself in a difficult situation soon. Dhoni is never an elegant batsmen. lack of elegance he makes up with determination and will power. But once the honeymoon is over and then he start to loose matches together with bad performance from him, he would really find it very difficult to keep his own job. My prediction is based on last few matches, it may as well be wrong.
Re: India v Sri Lanka, CB Series, 8th ODI, Adelaide
Dhoni is all guts and determination, especially with his batting. Sometime during his career however, bowlers will figure out that he plomps his front foot too early and if a ball straightens a touch on middle, he is plumb LBW.

If you are looking for a flat-track bully, look no further. Dhoni is # 1.

i guess when steams struggle to get to 230, its considered a flat track
anyways id take Dhoni over any other keeper

no when Dhoni struggles to score on a lively pitch, he is considered a flat-track bully.
Re: India v Sri Lanka, CB Series, 8th ODI, Adelaide
he won the game for India...
Re: India v Sri Lanka, CB Series, 8th ODI, Adelaide
Dhoni is not a flat track bully.
