Re: India v Pakistan at Dhaka - Jun 10, 2008
That streak meant nothing. 11 wins came against Bangladesh & Zimbabwe. So that's not an achievement. That was expected.

^ this is totally not allowed in cricket....
how can sehwag challenge the decision of the field umpire???? and how can the third umpire give a decision when he is not referred to????
Did Sehwag stood there after seeing the replay or did he come up to an umpire and challenged the decision?
Given this situation, if the third umpire was referred to by an on-field umpire due to the batsman challenging the decision based upon the replay while walking (and not based upon his perception), no law exists that would prevent a batsman to challenge the decision in this manner. ICC needs to set a clear guideline. What if the batsman had already walked all the way to the pavilion, would the umpire's decision be null and void? Could he only challenge it while walking "to the pavilion"?

Exactly!
A crushing defeat in the end....though not entirely unexpected. Pakistan's mediocrity was so brutally exposed by India today. This has got to be the most mediocre Pakistani team in living memory, atleast since I have been following cricket (mid-80s). The captain is as boring as they come, uninspiring and over-hyped. Even Inzi was more colourful and a better leader...atleast his batting was something to look forward to.
The two star players that we have in this team, unfortunately both had a bad day today and the rest as they say is history.
And Yeah before I forget...Congrats to all Indian guppies here on a well-deserved win....aap ne aaz humein sahi maanon mein din mein taarey dikha diye.
Sehwag did not challenge the decision.
See for yourself.

Which two star players are you referring to? Yousaf and who else?

younus...with 2 anday in two innings to sit on.

So I was correct in calling Younis Khan a 'super star' ?
Re: India v Pakistan at Dhaka - Jun 10, 2008
There goes the winning streak.
The two Y’s obviously. Despite what some people think here, Younis has a pretty decent if not brilliant one-day record. An average of 32 is very respectable considering he literally ‘opens’ in every game because of our useless openers. Whereas in tests he gets time to play himself in, in ODIs he does not have that luxury which is more the case when you are up against a mammoth total of 330. The shot that he played was injudicious but that is what pressure sometimes does to you. Perhaps Malik being the captain (by default) should take more responsibility and bat at no.3 (which he has done before) with Younis, Yousuf and Misbah coming in at 4, 5 & 6 respectively. That said this team is really not strong enough to test a good side like India. The tail is just too long with Sohail Tanvir batting at no. 8. The bowling is pretty toothless and barring a miracle we can expect more of the same in the final.

And this idiot Lawson wanted to get rid of Yousuf :) now atleast he has seen what the others can do (zilch to be precise) if the two Y's fail.

you are right :)
Younis Khan would not get into any other decent ODI team. He has played 169 matches and only 3 hundreds.
Like I stated many times before he is not a ODI player but just a useful test player.
The only real World class batsman in Pakistan is Mohammed Yousuf.
Aftermath of defeat
**Ashraf blasts Pakistan for “embarassing loss” **
Cricinfo staff
June 12, 2008
**Nasim Ashraf, the chairman of the PCB, has criticised the Pakistan side after their embarrassing 140-run loss to India on Tuesday. **
In an e-mail written to team manager Talat Ali, a copy of which was published in Dawn, **Ashraf was especially severe on Shoaib Malik’s captaincy and fitness, and picked out Kamran Akmal for “unsporting behaviour” after he claimed a catch that he hadn’t taken cleanly. **
**“Last night’s performance against India in which we lost by over 100 runs was embarrassing,” **Ashraf, who will fly to Dhaka on Saturday to have a meeting with the team management, wrote. “It is not a question of losing a match but our overall performance and the lack of resolve and commitment bothered me the most.”
Ashraf has sent copies of the letter to coach Lawson and Malik and asked the team management to respond in 24 hours “so that timely action can be taken before the next match against India [assuming the sides meet in the final].”
**He questioned why an additional spinner was not included in the team and inquired about the fitness of Malik. “The previous game against Bangladesh had clearly highlighted the characteristics of the track in Dhaka, that the spinners were going to play crucial role. The team selected for India game had four fast bowlers. Also, you [referring to Ali] clearly told me that Malik was 100% fit and therefore was the second spinner in the side. What happened to that? Why did Malik not bowl?” **
**Ashraf then turned his attention to the team’s strategy, saying that they looked “paralysed” in the field after the flying start made by India. “Nobody suggested to the captain that he must have a mini conference with the vice-captain and other players - junior or senior - and take corrective action. **Even the commentators were talking as to the possibility of changing the bowling and bringing in Shahid Afridi at an early stage.”
**Meanwhile, Akmal’s place in the side looks to in danger after Ashraf called for his ouster. "[The] wicketkeeping was pathetic, especially after Kamran Akmal dropped the catch and pretended that he had held on to it. This is unsporting behaviour but perhaps one has to give him the benefit of the doubt as he may not have realised that the ball had slipped out from his hand, which was picked up by the cameras. **
“I do not want such behaviour from any Pakistani player. Please warn everyone. We ought to be looking at playing another 'keeper.”
He said that fast bowlers should be advised not to “overextend themselves” referring to the 38 extras conceded. “They should have been instructed to bowl strictly to a line and length and to contain especially when the batsmen were in such full cry. It seemed as if we were just continuing with tactics that were clearly not working. We need to be more proactive on the field.”
The team’s body language also earned Ashraf’s ire." Except for a few on the field, the body language was not competitive. We were smiling and joking as if we were some junior team which was happy just to be given the privilege of playing a top team. This has to stop."
He directed the team management to conduct a fitness test on Malik “so as to determine clearly whether he can bowl full 10 overs.” He also asked the touring management to decide on the playing XI for a probable summit clash with India, and, to request for an additional spinner if they needed one.
The only positives Ashraf noted was Malik’s 67-ball 53 and the bowling of Afridi, though he felt the latter “threw his wicket away in a most irresponsible manner,” after making his way to 23.

So could this be the end of the two jokers in the photo below:
It is easy to dismiss Younis Khan as a one-day batsman on the basis of the number of his hundreds but if you look at his SR, it is comparable to other Pak batsmen. Miandad’s SR is low because he almost always batted in a crisis situation (esp. during the latter part of his career) with Pakistan 2 or 3 down for not many and had to graft for a while before playing a few shots. Also he played a lot of 60-over games early on in his career. I never said Younis was world-class or better than Yousuf but when you have you no other better options you have to stick with him for the time-being. His overall figures are decent rather than brilliant. Steve Waugh similarly had a batting average of 32.90, a healthy SR of 75.91 but only 3 hundreds in 325 ODIs though he batted at 5 or 6 for most of his career. West Indian Richie Richardson is another one whose figures don’t quite do justice to his immense talent.
Yousuf ODIs: 263, Runs: 9144, Ave: 43.54, SR: 75.16, Hundreds: 15
Younis Khan 169, 4683, 32.07, 75.54, 3
Shoaib Malik 162, 4353, 34.54, 78.70, 5
Inzamam 378, 11739, 39.52, 74.24, 10
Miandad 233, 7381, 41.70, 67.10, 8
Saeed Anwar 247, 8823, 39.21, 80.66, 20
Rameez Raja 198, 5841, 32.09, 63.31, 9
Saleem Malik 283, 7170, 32.88, 76.41, 5
Ijaz Ahmed 250, 6564, 32.33, 80.30, 10
Zaheer Abbas did not play a lot of ODIs but his figures are impressive
62, 2572, 47.62, 84.80, 7
When are we going to stop washing dirty laundry in public… I mean - ok I understand cause for concern and reason for action - but can’t we do things in private and demonstrate results rather than actions.
It’s really “embarrassing” to see management and players behaving unprofessionally and to think this Ashraf guy is so educated yet so professionally uncouth - sheesh!
Coming back to the topic at hand though… someone ought to talk to Malik. His captaincy is even meeker than Inzi’s. Where’s that proactive dynamic attitude that we were all promised. The Pakistan team was on the backfoot just as soon as the Indian openers had set their scoring momentum. The match was lost then.
Exactly plus Ashraf should know that the present Pakistani team is inferior to India in every department. The batting lacks depth and the bowling is pretty friendly to say the least. The margin (only that can be criticised) of defeat was embarrassing but they were just up against a better team.
aur nikalo Akhtar ko aur Razzaq ko *(he still has a good 3 or 4 years of ODI cricket left in him) Yes they are no angels but when you have no adequate replacements *to bardasht karo unkey nakhray. In the absence of handy all-rounders like Razzaq, Azhar etc. in the middle-late-middle order, our batting literally finishes at 7 which is not good enough when you are playing against a good side like India and esp. when you are chasing a 280+ total.
