he is struck on the pad outside the line of off stump, even if the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps **unless **the batsman makes no genuine attempt to play a stroke. In that situation, the “the ball hit the pad outside off stump” defence becomes redundant. BBC Sport - Cricket - Not out LBW: Outside line of off stump
the ball pitches outside leg stump regardless of whether or not a) he’s playing a shot and b) the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps
^ Thanks GA, Cleared things up quite a lot. So the rule re: outside lef stump has not changed. Always not out. I did not know the subtleties of outside off stump pitched rule - whether batsman offered a shot or not has big role in umprires decision.
I was just checking K. Pietersen record against India
9 match 913 runs 4 centuries and 2 fifties with an average of 57
But Dravid is just awesome with an impressive average of 75 against England in England …
10 match 1052 runs, 4 centuries, 4 fifties with an impressive average of 75
Dravid is just amazing. He is so technically correct and good to watch despite that. It would be a sad day when he has to hang up his boots. This golden trio of Sachin, Dravid and Laxman is something to cherish :k:
Having said that, I suspect England will win it today because of Gambhir and Sachin wont be able to bat as well as they can.
As said earlier, if India gets benefit of doubt draw possible. But 2 lbws Gambhir and Tendulkar - now makes it difficult. I was afraid there will be key lbws. Did not watch to see if dfecisions were close or plumb
Also, had wanted an extra batsman for this test. May have come in handy.
Having said all of this, Tendulkardoes not match Dravid and Laxman in terms of stepping up when chips are down (IMO)
Gauti and sachin's fitness has this made this harder than it would have been. I am still counting on dhoni, raina and the tail to stick it out. 40ish overs to go. Duable. India needs to get their fitness right forthe next test. I think sehwag is not available till the 3rd test which makes gauti even more important.
Anderson was superb. Great all round performance by England. Altho they were unlucky with the injuries they encountered during the match. It would have been a lot closer otherwise.
England's better seam attack proved to be the difference between the two sides. Even yesterday indian seamers failed to finish off the job after having England reeling on 62/5
With everyone fit, India no doubt has the stronger batting but as I mentioned in the poll thread, that difference is almost nullified in English conditions. As Sri Lanka found out earlier, if you want to win in England, your seam/pace attack has to be top notch. That being said, injuries to Zaheer and Gautam and a half-fit Sachin (viral infection) did not help the indian cause
The next test is in just 4 days (starts on Friday) and India cannot afford to go 2-0 down in Nottingham. If Sehwag is even 80% fit, he should play
Harbhajan had a forgettable game with both ball and bat
