** *LONDON, September 8: **** Simmering after the dubious dismissal of star batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid in the series decider, Team India management has decided to lodge an official complaint with the International Cricket Council.
“We’ll lodge a complaint with the ICC about the decisions,” administrative manager of the side Rajeev Shukla said.
Aleem Dar did little to enhance his reputation as one of the better umpires around by giving two dubious decisions, which reduced India to 59 for four.
Tendulkar was out in the 16th over when Andrew Flintoff induced a loose drive from the batsman and though the ball went past the bat without any contact, Dar upheld England’s appeal that had Tendulkar livid.
Television replays also showed it was only his bat clipping the pad that made a noise but Dar felt otherwise. That cut short Tendulkar’s 46-ball stay in the middle yielding 30 runs in his final ODI appearance on British soil.
The Lord’s crowd booed Dar for the poor decision. Earlier, Dar erred in his decision and ruled Dravid out for a duck off Flintoff.
Flintoff had pitched it on back off a length and there was a noise as Dravid dropped his bat. Dar again upheld the vociferous appeal of the English side as Dravid shook his head in disbelief and grumpily walked off.
Shukla asserted that India would not just grin and bear it and said, “We will follow whatever is the procedure and lodge a complaint.”

Can anybody who watched the match tell us about what happened? Were they bad decisions or is it a case of sour grapes for India? Steve Bucknor has made several bad decisions against Indians but as far as I know, they have never formally lodged a complaint against him.
Re: India to file complaint against Aleem Dar's decisions
I did not follow the match but I understand that Tendu and Dravid got dubious decisions.
As far as lodging a complaint against Dar, I think the big factor behind this is that this was a very important match and after the hope/hype India generated after the last match, the Indian team management perhaps think that highlighting Dar's wrongful decisions could provide them with just the rationalization they and the fans need to explain India's defeat.
I don't believe they would have filed the complaint, had India won.

1) I do not think the team management is going to suffer any backlash or criticism back home because of the series loss. The day is not too far when technology is going to be used for making every umpiring decision.
2) That I do not know, but the umpiring standards through out the series was substandard.
Re: India to file complaint against Aleem Dar's decisions
^There would be no backlash...that I totally agree.
But Tendu & co had generated a lot of hype and hope after the last match. I think filing a complaint has something to do with today's disappointing loss which was nothing short of anti-climax to what was billed as a spectacular FINAL.

The decision to file a complaint was flashed on Tv's even before the Indian innings was over.
I dont think it would have mattered had India won or Lost. The Umpiring through out the series was bad.
Re: India to file complaint against Aleem Dar's decisions
Dravid decision was a good one. I saw the replays of that with the snick-o-meter and there was a thin inside edge. Tendi's decision was wrong no doubt. I agree with Some1...we should definetly be using technology since it is avalible.
Re: India to file complaint against Aleem Dar's decisions
some umpires see replays and still give wrong decisions in favor of their home team (e.g. that famous youhanna run out), so technology aint gonna help anyway if the umpire is a cheater....
Re: India to file complaint against Aleem Dar's decisions
I have n't watched the highlights of the game myself but if as it seems Dar has made a series of shocking blunders then he must be ready to face the music. He is not above reproach. And the fact that the Indians have not previously taken any action against Bucknor is besides the point. They have every right to feel aggrieved esp. as Tendulkar was in sublime form in this series.
Re: India to file complaint against Aleem Dar's decisions
India should definetely make a complain against Aleem Dar - g. Those decisions were shocking. Becuase of those decisons it spoilt what could have been a good final match.
Re: India to file complaint against Aleem Dar's decisions
I hope that India also includes the complaint against Aleem Dar for not giving Uthappa out when he was or are they just going to be cry babies and mention Tendi's decision only.
Re: India to file complaint against Aleem Dar's decisions
Everyone was talking about those two decisions. What I fail to understand is how people are so sure about Dravid's decision. Tendulkar's decision was no doubt wrong but none of the replay's were conclusive as far as Dravid's decision was concerned. Though the snicko did suggest that Dravid did get a nick, but even snicko showed very little sound enhancement so it was perhaps the thinnest of edges as Dravid said later that he did not feel he nicked it but he saw the snicko later on and he cant argue with that.
Re: India to file complaint against Aleem Dar's decisions
Even if Tendulkar's decision was wrong, there WAS the sound of bat hitting the pad. So it wasn't as if the decision was a total shocker. These kind of mistakes are common in cricket... so I don't know what the big deal is.
What's bad is that both Dravid and Tendulkar stood their ground. That's a BIG no no in cricket. I wonder if ICC is going to fine them for this blatant disregard of ICC code of conduct, as they have in the past. No matter how bad the decision, you cannot question the umpire.
Re: India to file complaint against Aleem Dar's decisions
So is Aleem the only umpire EVER to make a mistake? All human (including umpires) make mistakes and they will continue to do so. Using technology would help umpires in making correct decisions. Until ICC realize this we have to live with it. (I learned that being Pakistani fan, if you know what I mean.)

lol, no he is not the only umpire ever to make a mistake, but there was a general feeling that the decisions were very poor for international standards and especially since it was a final match, plus the fact that it was tendulkar and dravid who are big players and that affects the match's outcome considerably.
i think there should be a certain # of appeals a team can make in an innings to protect the game from really poor decisions. The umpiring the entire summer has been really bad, benson is the big name for me, he made some terrible decisions this series...
