India successfully launches PSLV

The Indian space agency’s workhorse rocket, the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, was successfully launched on Wednesday morning.

The launch marks the country’s first tentative steps towards a manned mission into space.

The success of today’s launch on the coast of Bay of Bengal in Andhra Pradesh also makes a good case for ISRO to get the Rs 16,000 crore it requires for its proposed manned mission.

The rocket has placed four satellites - two Indian and one each from Argentina and Indonesia - in the polar orbit.

Significant milestone

Wednesday’s launch is a test for India’s usage of re-entry technology, the success of which will be known after two weeks when the capsule is expected to re-enter Earth.

The launch erases the memory of the failed larger rocket launch in the summer of 2006.

The world watched India’s successful launch of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle or PSLV.

As the rocket disappeared into the sky, putting into orbit four satellites it was carrying, scenes of jubilation and hugging broke out in the control room on the ground in Sriharikota.

A significant milestone had been achieved in India’s space endeavour.

The launch followed a text book pattern, with the smaller rocket performing exactly the way it was meant to in its 9th consecutive successful launch.

Objectives achieved

According to ISRO, it achieved all its objectives:

  • Four satellites were launched together - two Indian and one each from Argentina and Indonesia
  • Cartosat, a sophisticated mapping satellite which can differentiate objects less than one metre apart, has been put in orbit
  • The launch also initiates India’s first attempt at mastering re-entry technology - launching a satellite and bringing it back, to Earth, after 10 days
  • Locally developed hi-tech ceramic tiles will protect the capsule from burning at the point it enters the Earth’s atmosphere
With this success ISRO has erased the memories of the failure of India’s big rocket - the Geostationary Launch Vehicle last July.

If the Space Capsule Recovery Experiment goes as planned, India will become the fourth country after Russia, America and China to have mastered the hi-tech area.

There was a lot riding on the launch. For 17 minutes India’s top scientists watched with bated breath as the rocket chattered its course. At the end of it smiles broke out on every face, as the launch had been perfect.

All eyes are now set for the early 2008 launch of India’s maiden mission to the moon on a similar vehicle.

Happy Times - Borat :)

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

best of luck for the moon mission guys :k: khas kam jahan pak.

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

Great success!!! - Borat

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

if the public at large knew indians were trying to get into space we'd see a global wellspring of support, NGOs would spring up, people would have peaceful demonstrations of encouragement all over the world. we need to propagate this article.

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

Well, hardwork pays off :lajawab:
The way India is working towards economy, technology, etc etc. they deserve to go ahead and compete.

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

Such achievements are fine but mission to moon is a wasteful expenditure. There are other areas where such money could be utilised. Education, Healthcare, Law and Order etc.

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

good that they proved the detractors wrong who criticized them for earlier failure....but the most important thing is, let's not boast and better keep the feet on the ground

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

there is no better cause than sending Indians into space DSPathania.

ssingh i thought the whole point was to not keep your feet on the ground. maybe thats where you guys go wrong.

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

Ravage,

Commercial satellite launch is a very lucrative business. Indians and Chinese can do it at very low cost in comparision to Western countries. Minimising the failures would ensure that these two countries can give others a run for their money. Still a long way to go.

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

thats low hanging fruit pathania. i envision much grander benefits.

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

dude...i know this is a pakistani forum. announcing such things over here, it sounds really odd. and I personally dislike all those indians who get exited for such frivolous things.

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

i personally dislike those indians too ssingh :hugz:

but okay i’ll stop posting in this thread now

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

Singh Saheb,

**What do you mean by a Pakistani Forum ?. There are several issues pertaining only to India being discussed in this forum. Why did you choose to become a member of this forum if everything to be discussed should pertain to Pakistan. **

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

yes it is....this is a pakistani forum. Of course i joined this forum, coz somethings pertaining to india were discussed. I got what you are trying to convey. In a way you are right, as last failure of agni was glorified here.

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

actually, what i had in my mind was, some english speaking educated population in india are simply not aware of certain ground realities, who get excited of small success. I meant no offense to indians here. definitely not!

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

I am looking for a very good stick to hit you with. God willing  I will have it soon. :snooty:

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

but there are people like ravage and likes who cant see any positives from India. It makes their day miserable. So why do you want to make their day miserable. Let them have a good time. Om Shanti.:)

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

**It is certainly not my intention to make their day miserable. India and Pakistan can help each other in addressing several common issues confronting each other. Par nahin... pehle Kashmir uske baad Trade. **

**We have border disputes with China but these never come in the way of ecomonic cooperation and trade between the two. **

**Mush rightly said a few years back....Without Kashmir nobody can have a political survival in Pakistan. **

Re: India successfully launches PSLV

"Image Building" has importance too.
