India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

Good ridden to this fat cow…paisa ka pujari.

India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami, report says - Pakistan - DAWN.COM

Pakistani singer Adnan Sami, who has spent more than a decade living in Mumbai and working for Indian film industry, is set to get Indian citizenship, The Hindu reported on Saturday.

“The Shiv Sena may have forced ghazal singer Ghulam Ali to cancel his concert in Mumbai, but the government is set to give Indian citizenship to Sami,” the report said.

It said the decision was taken after Attorney-General Mukul Rohatgi gave a favourable opinion to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

A senior official told The Hindu that Sami, who has been staying in India since 2001, will be given Indian citizenship under Section 6 of the Indian Citizenship Act, 1955.

The provision allows citizenship, through a certificate of “naturalisation,” to applicants with distinguished contribution in the field of science, philosophy, art, literature, world peace or human progress.

In May this year, the Indian home ministry granted him the right to stay in India indefinitely on humanitarian grounds after his Pakistani passport expired the same month.

Sami with his powerful Indian contacts has made several representations to Home Minister Rajnath Singh about his citizenship.

The paper said Sami was exempted from deportation proceedings under Section 3 of the Foreigners Act.

In 2009, Sami’s wife filed a case of cheating and cruelty against him in Mumbai.

“The criminal case filed against him was also taken into account, and we came to the conclusion that it was a civil case, which shouldn’t come in the way of our decision,” said the official.

Sami has sung in various Hindi films, the latest being a qawwali for the Salman Khan-starer Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

It was in March that Sami applied for Indian citizenship for a second time after the Centre rejected an earlier plea.

The 43-year-old singer — whose earlier request was rejected some two years back — has made his application to the Foreigners’ Division of the Indian home ministry.

Sami, who was holding a Pakistani passport, arrived in India in 2001 and, between 2001 and 2013, visited the UK and several other countries. He has a business and professional visa.

His earlier application for citizenship was submitted to the special branch of Mumbai Police.

Wow! Speaks volumes

Re: India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

Speaks volumes of the OP and his constant hate for anything india related.

Don't know Sami. Came across his name here. What is the issue here?

Re: India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

he is no more a fat guy. He looks handsome now, you will fall in love with him :)

Re: India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

Coming to think of it, the use of "fat cow" is not very nice. Some are thin, some are fat. The choice of words in OP does ring shallow.

Re: India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

:)

Re: India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

Good for him. People go to places where they have more economic opportunities so its a natural progression for him.

Re: India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

underrated post

Re: India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

I don't understand all this hatred for anyone that decides to move to India for better employment opportunities.
Don't we all move for better opportunities?

Maybe that's the only market, other than Pakistan, where Sami is able to make a good living. Why begrudge him that?

Re: India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

I understand why this seems disgraceful to most Pakistanis but you have to keep reminding yourself that this isn't a political issue. Unless an artist has made any political statements or has been involved in politics, you and I have no right to judge where they choose to work. Not only does it make NO sense but shows your hatred for India that goes beyond politics. At least that's the vibe I have been getting from the recent threads in General. Keep it political and I might agree with you but when you choose to degrade someone when they have not pledged allegiance to any country or spoken against or for a country, why does it effin' matter to you what they do? Should they stay in a place just because they were born there? If you are so ProPakistan, why are you in the West? Shouldn't you be hating the West just as much because let's face it, the US has stirred a lot of sh*t in Pakistan.

Re: India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

He shouldn't take it....

Re: India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

Its not hate or any thing.
People love artists. But he lost love of pakistani people. He made this choice long time ago.
India took time to give him citizenship.
First shock came from him to pakistan when he first claim in india, that he has nothing to do with pak,
since his ancestors move from Afghanistan. I mean living after generations. Having family in privileged positions.

Thats what he says about pak.

So people of pakistan chose not to love him.. as they do to shaan... reema ... etc..

Re: India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

Oh the irony. Adnan Sami gets Indian citizenship for publicly disowning Pakistan on numerous occasions, but Pakistani artists and sportsmen aren't even allowed to perform and participate in India!

Pakistanis (the handful of them) should honestly stop giving a damn about him all together. If he wants to call himself Afghan come Indian....let him do so.

Re: India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

people move to America , Australia , Europe , timbukto for better opportunities - Adnan Sami did nothing different - so why curse him..

Re: India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

Why etc? What did she do?

Re: India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

Grumble, grumble, grumble!

Re: India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

Is this the NFL thread? Is PD still in last place?

Re: India set to grant citizenship to Adnan Sami

When French actor Gerard Depardieu left France and was granted Russian citizinship people in France and even other western made a big deal out of it aswell. It is a natural human reaction.
Given the history of India and Pakistan it's normal that people will have negative opinions about it.

Stop acting as if you all are so perfect and hippie zen.
