NEW DELHI: India views with “serious concern” growing defence ties between China and Pakistan and says it will have to bolster its own military capabilities to meet the challenge.

“It is a matter of serious concern for us. The main thing is we have to increase our capability — that is the only answer,” Defence Minister A.K. Antony told reporters in New Delhi late on Friday.

The comments followed reports China plans to accelerate supply of 50 new JF-17 Thunder multi-role combat jets to Pakistan under a co-production pact.

Antony added safe havens for militants in Pakistan is another “main concern” for New Delhi and told Islamabad to “disband and destroy” all guerrilla outfits if it “sincerely” wants to improve relations with India.

The killing of Osama bin Laden by US commandos in Pakistan has “internationally stamped the nation’s position as the core of terrorist activities in the South Asian region,” he said.

India has long accused Pakistan of providing shelter and support to militant groups planning attacks on Indian soil and has pushed the global community — the United States in particular — to censure Pakistan accordingly.

India and Pakistan have fought three wars since attaining independence in 1947, two of them over the disputed territory of Kashmir.

Re: India says Sino-Pakistan ties a ‘serious concern’

Who gives a damn what they think LOL? We need to think about our country and its future.

Re: India says Sino-Pakistan ties a ‘serious concern’

You do not get it? Do you? They have always cried like that to be compensated by USA and Russia to get many times more sophisticated arms from them, more advance than China to always shift the balance towards India in acquiring arms. Helping by China in this field have always proven bad omen for Pakistan.

Re: India says Sino-Pakistan ties a ‘serious concern’

^^
What do u mean by compensate, india has never got any aid from this nations,it's our own tax money, also india doesn't have much defence agreement with america,we get most from russia, israel, france.nowadays india is doing joint work with russia like the new sukhoi T-50,equally funded by india.must of the software work is done in india, and all indian version are manufactured locally with transfer of technology.

But I agree this rant is about increasing india's own defence budget, which is already 36 billion usd for 2011-12,add few more billions, this guys can fill up little more money in their pockets

oh yeah, read as follows:

**Huge U.S.-India Arms Deal To Contain China
India, US to ink huge military deal: report **

US President Barack Obama’s visit to New Delhi in November may secure $5 billion worth of arms sales to India, Russia’s Vzglyad newspaper reported Monday.

The deal, if signed during Obama’s visit, would make the US replace Russia as India’s biggest arms supplier, the paper said, adding that the deal would also help India curb China’s rise.

India’s shortlist includes Patriot defense systems, Boeing mid-air refueling tankers and certain types of howitzers, and the total cost of the deal may exceed $10 billion, the paper added.

The report came a day after The Economic Times in New Delhi reported that talks are underway between Indian and US officials over a deal to sell 10 Boeing C-17 military transport aircraft to the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The talks focus on the price and onboard equipment of the T-tailed C-17 Globemaster-III, which has passed validation trials and meets the requirements of the IAF, the newspaper said.

According to an official Boeing statement, the C-17 can carry a maximum payload of 74,797 kilo-grams for 2,400 nautical miles (4,444.8 kilometers) without refueling, and 45,495 kilograms for 4,000 nautical miles (7,408 kilometers) without refueling, the paper added.

Wang Mingzhi, a military strategist at the PLA Air Force Command College, told the Global Times that those reported military deals reflect Washington and New Delhi’s needs in the region.

“To assist the Afghan war and the fight against the Pakistani Taliban, the US has been trying to improve its presence in South Asia and the Indian Ocean,” Wang said. “Those arms sales will improve ties between Washington and New Delhi, and, intentionally or not, will have the effect of containing China’s influence in the region.”

“For example, once India gets the C-17 transport aircraft, the mobility of its forces stationed along the border with China will be improved. Mobility includes transportation, lifting, landing and deployment,” he added.

Re: India says Sino-Pakistan ties a ‘serious concern’

US has to recoup some of the dollars that are out sources to India... After all the key motive is containment of China. US/West are masters of playing this game, masters of love/hate relationship. What they say, divide and rule.

Re: India says Sino-Pakistan ties a ‘serious concern’

i think another scandal of few hazar crore is on its way

Re: India says Sino-Pakistan ties a ‘serious concern’

Their "concern" could lead to more incidents of terrorism in Pakistan.

Re: India says Sino-Pakistan ties a ‘serious concern’

The current US - indian deals are business but india did profit from its partnership with USSR (friendship treaty was for something)
