A senior most Hindu judge of Pakistan Supreme Court Rana Bhagwan Das has cancelled his visit to India after the Indian authorities did not allow his family members to cross the border for not having visas, court officials said on Thursday.
The Indian authorities stopped family members of Justice Bhagwan Das on Wahga border on Wednesday, when they arrived in a bus, runs between Pakistani city of Lahore and Amristar, the capital of Indian Punjab.
The Indian authorities allowed Justice Bhagwan Das to enter India but did not permit his family members to cross the border as they had no visas.
A spokesman for the Indian high Commission Islamabad said that visas were not issued to Justice Bhagwan Das and his family members.
Registrar of the Supreme Court has confirmed that family of Justice Bhagwan Das was not allowed.
Judges of the Pakistani Supreme Court do not need visa under the laws of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
However their family members are required to get visa of the member countries.
SAARC groups Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, the Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Ashok Das, brother of Bhagwan Das, who was also going to India also confirmed that he was not allowed to enter India.
However, he did not say anything whether or not he had a visa.

Doesnt' a person of level of Judge not konw that family can't enter other country without visa.
Despite oversight by the esteemed judge, the Indian authorities should have been more diplomatic....
There is option of temporary visa on the spot atleast on airports, though that also takes around 6 to 8 hrs of wait to get the paper work done. I am not sure whether Mr. Bhagwan Das didn't take that option or that wasn't tired.

The criteria of Sr. Member should be other than just number of posts........

You are either privy to soeminside ifno or u are just making it up...... the article certainly doesn't suggest anything akin to ur claim.. people were trying to enter without visa and they were stopped. it doesn't matter whether the person is supreme court judge or the president himself..

The first news reports were wrong as is usually the case. Dawn reported details of the incident the next day. You need different kind of visa for land entry than for airport entry which most people don't know.

the title of this forum is also misleading. judge was not refused the visa..his family was...and by rules, its perfect...security officials have done the right thing...then what's the discussion about?

I didn’t report anything wrong …The story i had taken from IRNA fails to give the fact that Rana Das was refused visa but was allowed to enter at the border (having the SAARC law for chief Justices in place)…& this is what i had put in headline…
So i didn’t malign u or India…I had taken the above article because i couldn’t find any good article in English & must of u can’t read urdu…
