Srinagar, Nov 2: In yet another case of preventing Kashmiris from visiting China, Indian immigration authorities Monday stopped an Associate professor of Geology, University of Kashmir, Dr Shakeel Ahmad Romshoo at Indira Gandhi International Airport New Delhi on Monday after he was granted stapled visa by the Chinese embassy.
He had to receive an award at Wuhan, China for his research on lakes.
Dr Romshoo, an Associate professor in Geology department, was recently awarded Kasumigaura International Award for his research work on “Pollution Modeling of Himalayan Lakes”. “Indian immigration authorities at Delhi international airport stopped me when I was proceeding for China to receive an award. I was having a proper visa issued by the Chinese embassy,” Dr Romshoo told Rising Kashmir over phone from Delhi’s international airport.
Romshoo, according to sources, was stopped by immigration officials at the Delhi airport as he was given visa on a separate document and not on his passport by the Chinese embassy.
He said it was for the first time he witnessed such an experience in his life. “I have visited 30 countries so far but was never stopped. This is for the first time I have been stopped by Indian immigration authorities,” Dr Romshoo said.
He said the award ceremony, that was scheduled to be held at Wuhan, China on November 2, has been cancelled after the development.
Romshoo said he contacted the Chinese embassy and narrated the entire episode to them. “The Chinese embassy told me that I was having a charactered and valid visa. They also contacted the Indian immigration officers and told them that I was having a proper visa to travel to China. Despite all this, I was forced to off load,” he said.
The situation must be really desperate … now even the mods are twisting the meaning of article to score some brownie points :k: … anyway … let us talk about the " meat " of the issue.
Every country has a right on what rules are followed in that particular country. So India is justified in this act. Remember it is not (as even the news item says) about stoping a Kashmiri getting an award … it is an issue of a traveller not having proper documentaion …
I don’t understand why China has “started” this practice … this is only going to hurt the Kashmiris … but then the Chinese these days are trying to “woo” someone from another camp so they need to pull all the stops. Just hoping it is worth for them … after the Dalai Lama - Tawang debacle … another situation like that is not doing to aguer well for the “superpower” !!!
Re: India prevents Kashmiri Professor from receiving Chinese award
^ you miss the point. India does not approve its citizenry being treated differently based on state. Stapled visas are not allowed. If China wants to do it differently they will have to discuss and secure agreement first. That was not done for obvious reasons.
Re: India prevents Kashmiri Professor from receiving Chinese award
Dalai lama can be called a fanatic by morons only. First go and study Tibetan struggle history. China always played a villanous role in that. Can you send a Pakistani person to India to whom India issued a stapled visa without your country's knowledge. your position is the position of a miserable man who wants to prove criminal to a man to whom he dislikes, by hook or crook. If China is ready to provide normal visa to the Professor, who is stopping him to go to China. But remember every state has its own laws and people are allowed to follow only that. Your heart touching support to the Prof is nothing more than a plaque to bash India to hide your failed Pakistan.
The Chinese embassy, which issued the visa, said that it was valid for entry to China. So why was he not allowed to go and enter China?
It's not as though he needs that visa to return to India.
Visa is not valid according to India. Chinese can say whatever they want but he is an indian citizen with Indian passport. So emigration check does not recognize such a visa. If chinese feel offended then take up with Indian govt.

what china is doing is a complete cheapness...very strange that a civilized and cultured country like pakistan is supporting china' cheapness.
