KARACHI: Pakistan’s envoy to the United Nations Abdullah Hussain Haroon said on Saturday that India played a vital role in supporting Pakistan to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Times of India reported.

Speaking at the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, Haroon said that many countries that Pakistan was not being associated with countries it once considered as friends, but India had supported Pakistan in getting elected on the 15 member UNSC.

Haroon added that Pakistan had worked hard in the past six months to win the UNSC seat.

The ambassador said that Pakistan was devoted to promoting principles and fulfilling purposes protected in the UN Charter.

He said:

I think we should not be discouraged by the reaction by some of the nations in the UN because I can say the world wants Pakistan to play its positive role in the global scenario.

Earlier, Haroon said that Pakistan would work with all the members of the Security Council, especially India.

He said that good, working relations are being developed between India and Pakistan.

Haroon also acknowledged differences with United States over militant groups such as Haqqani network.

Pakistan will replace Lebanon in the UNSC January 1, 2012, for two-year tenure.

This is really great.
But there are elements at both sides who don't want piece.
Better Indian should start for solving Kashmir issue.
Better for all.

Yes India should give Kashmir on a platter to pakistan.

I don't think this issue can be solved by a party which removed Kashmir house boards from Islamabad when Rajiv Gandhi visited the city during benazir's government.

Besides the issue of Kashmir hasent been resolved and the government is dying to give MFN status to India in detriment to the local industries.

Good news.

Now, without going into who is right/wrong re: Kashmir, the question is - is Kashmir issue resolution a solution to all the probelms or is it a distraction thatprovides both sides cover to not fix deep rooted problems in their own countries?

This is the main cause and also used ever by the elements of the both sides which are enjoying the major sources of the both the countries.

Very good news, We need more news like this. It is in the intrest of both countries to cooperate instead of spending their resources against each other.
