India Pakistan Partition BBC Special Presentation

Re: India Pakistan Partition BBC Special Presentation

it is a sad reality that punjab where millions died during the partition played no material role in independence…yes islamia college lahore students were active but there was no big political leader from punjab…core political leadership of mulsim league came either from central india or bangal…with aligarh and osmania universities playing the role of spiritual student centers

The Unionist Party ruled Punjab during the period of British rule in India and mainly represented the interests of the landed gentry and landlords of Punjab, which included Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs. The Unionists dominated the political scene in Punjab from World War I to the independence of South Asia, its division into India and Pakistan (and the partition of the province) in 1947. Even in 1937 elections, Unionist party was with congress…it was only just before 1946 elections that landlords of Unionist party joined muslim league as partition of subcontinent was imminent
