One of my schoolmates is a Sindhi. Anselm so was a person in the university. Their family probably may feel some hostility. But ibdoubt it. In all the years I knew the schoolmate topic of Pakistan didn’t come up.

You are correct. The Punjabis were torn apart. They are the true cousinsx- feeling love and hate at the same time.

Growing up at the advent of TV media was not hate mongrring either. With BJP RSS on one side and their counterpart on the other this has fueled more hate.

Which brings me to the logical conclusion - the Progressives need to rise and be heard.

Well, I mean the blood letting between Punjabis makes the hatred that much more palpable. Ofcourse, anyone forced or compelled to leave his home will feel resentment. Your Sindhi friend is no exception. But Sindh did not experience the same violence that the Punjab did.

That is the reason we still have a considerable number of Hindus still living in Sindh, while they are virtually non existent in Punjab. Although i cant speak for Indian Punjab, I suspect there arent very many muslims, atleast not in the villages.
