Some of the opinions of ex-cricketers (like this one) gets on my nerves.
I mean India missing GANGU of all people - what crap !
The only thing GANGU could have done against Nel, Ntini and Pollock would be - piss in his pants.
So…here’s an advice to Mr Donald - Shut the fcuk up…unless you had the interest of SA in mind when you made that statement.
btw, Greg Chappel’s biggest contribution to Indian Cricket (in my opinion) is getting rid of GANGU.
Re: India missing GANGU says Donald - What a joke !!
I think Donald is talking about Gangully captaincy. I still think he was the most successful captain for India. He revolved the team and Dravid took a ready product, which eventually being ruined by Greg. I think when Greg saw Indian standing up to Aussies, he started experimentation, such as resting Irfan for a ODI? On any day, i will pick half fit Irfan for Agarkar. But Greg brought Irfan confidence to zero. While Gangully and John Wright combination was supporting such players even if they were out of form.
Re: India missing GANGU says Donald - What a joke !!
More than tallent, what one needs to play at the international level is guts and Ganguly has plenty of it. He single-handledly changed the Indian team from an "also played" team to one that people took notice of. I have no doubt that he can play much better than the likes of Raina, Kaif, and Mongia. He could have also provided the mental lift to younger players that only a captain can provide and Mr. Dravid scores pathetically low in that department.
Re: India missing GANGU says Donald - What a joke !!
I think Donald did't belive in what he wrote about recalling ganguly back, he do not want to state the obvious fact that indians suck at facing fast bowling and there is no hope and no cure in near feature, it was same when southafrica first came in to seen around 92, indian batsmen were cluless then and same 15 years later still clueless not a shred of improvement --------- thanks to BCCI
You can say he was trying to be deplomatic coz he was addressing indian audiance. He could lay the blame squarely on indian batsmen and write they are none but bunch of FTP's ---- but it will only add insult to injury instead he try to find some fault with team selection and stuff like that. It was nothing but an effort on his part to reinforce indian fan it's all right, life moves on.
Re: India missing GANGU says Donald - What a joke !!
Yes ...we saw all of that and more in the last two years of Gangu's Test Career.
e.g. taking 10000000 balls to score a century against Zimbabwe.
Chappel got rid of Gangu before he could do any more damage to Indian cricket. I have said this before...we Desis should learn from Aussies in their ruthlessness to do what is good for their cricket and not just carry on with past-greats just so their super-size egos are not hurt. They can dump a player like Waugh also when/if required if he does not fit in their plans.
Desi players (at least those who have made a name for themselves) tend to hang around and overstay their welcome even after they are well past their prime...think Kapil Dev , Azharuddin......Gangu was going in the same direction.
Re: India missing GANGU says Donald - What a joke !!
I remember watching his last test match in Pakistan and in both innings, he was much better than Sachin or Dravid. I agree that he didn't play good in his last 2 years and it was necessary to drop him to give him a message and also give him an opportunity to play domestic cricket and come back stronger; but I don't agree with this theory of not considering him back for selection even when the current Indian middle order looks like a bunch of school kids playing gully cricket.
Re: India missing GANGU says Donald - What a joke !!
While on the subject, I just hope Tendu does a dignified exit from Indian Team when he is done. Would hate to see him hang around, become a liability and be hounded out in the end.
Between product endorsements, the constant ego-boosting coverage, lack of alternative career option - Desi Cricketers usually find it very difficult to see the writing on the wall and give up the limelight.
Re: India missing GANGU says Donald - What a joke !!
Ganguly hit the bad form at wrong time. The current downfall of Indian cricket lies directly on Greg Chappel. Michael Vaughn is not that great of a batsman but captaincy wise; unbelieveable. He was the reason they won last Ashes.
Re: India missing GANGU says Donald - What a joke !!
Donal is just messing it with Indian team management. It is part of psycological war fare that happen in the begining of any cricket series these days. Donald very well knows that Chappel and company are under pressure from domestic media and are exploiting. He knows very well that Ganguly used to pee at the sight of Donald running to deliver a bowl and nothing has changed to believe otherwise.
