my goodness! there are actually 'people' here that don't think the satellite program is not for the benefit of common man? I have listed several benefits which don't seem to be heard or understood. More than likely posters such as CM and Mo293 etc etc seem interested in just criticizing, even though many of their criticisms seem plain old 'hapless widowed old women commenting on the bride's dress' (that is a saying that I have roughly translated). If more Pakistan jantha is like these people (I hope not) about science, that will explain why anti-science groups such as taleban gain power there!

CM, one must not dwleve on being optimstic of the state, the people must begin to be realistic and understand the parasitic nature of the State enterprise does not enable the establishment to care for anyone but its own rule.

While in a captalist model I would completely agree with you. However in a socialist one like that of Western Europe I disagree. That model follows the base line thinks of human values and human compassion over that of the desire to gain wealth. Public transport is a mandatory part of the state enterprise, something clearly lacking in the captalist model, as are issues of universal affordable health care, medical insurance and food. Such models should form the basis for governance so that the average individual is provided with the basic necessities of life.

Western Europe isnt socialistic. It is a mixed market economy. The true nature of socialmism was a movement which could only fail, which indeed did fail miserably in those numerous countries where it attained power in the twentieth century,by bringing to the masses only unprecedented despotism, starvation, and grinding impoverishment.
In saying that, providing health care, public transport etc is not provided for the beneficiary of the people, but to protect the establishment from a backlash. We could debate all day long about what the state should provide and what not, but what ever the state does provide through the coercive mechanism of taxation is rarely done for the greater good.
