India has “hardly” any choice except to patiently wait for Pakistan to respond to the dossier given on Mumbai attacks, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said on Monday.
“We won’t get anything by simply losing our patience, so hardly we have a choice,” Mukherjee said at CNN-IBN’s ‘Indian of the Year’ Award function in New Delhi. He was responding when asked how long India will wait for Pakistan’s response to India’s demands after the Mumbai terror strikes for which Pakistan-based elements have been blamed.
India gave the dossier of evidence on January 5 and has since been waiting for Pakistan to respond officially.
Pakistan has said it is investigating the matter and would get back to India as soon as it is over. Queried on his status now since he is discharging duties of the Prime Minister, he said, “Simply I am discharging duties, neither I am officiating nor acting, neither de-jure nor de-facto”.
He said under the Constitution of the country, there can be only one Prime Minister. But “the Prime Minister can delegate some responsibility to his colleagues and I am doing exactly that”.
Re: India left choiceless; must wait for Pakistani response
They were choiceless since the start...they should be thankful that atleast pak is doing the investigation......with the attitutde they have i dont think anyone else wouldve even bothered abt it, let alone actually doin it!

The questions is does Pakistan has any other choice ..... everyone has been asking Pakistan to act against the terrorists coming out of Pakistan. The latest to join is the new administration in US ..... that is the reason they have a special envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan. Finally the realization has dawnned on the Americans that if they have to get at the source of terror ... it has to weed out it's roots in Pakistan ... the ones they are fighting in Afghansitan are just the foot soldiers of masters sitting in Pakistan. So in a way Pakistan government is doing the right thing .... after all they don't want whole of Pakistan to take a rap for a few nut cases!!!!
It was the rhetoric that got Pakistan going … otherwise their initial reaction was that it has got nothing to do with us. I mean i can understand you putting a brave front … but you have to understand that Pakistan’s esteem has taken a beating in last few weeks … i mean the way they have been forced to act … they could have certainly done without it. But then there are still people in the establishment who haven’t learnt. Look at the episode with the UK ambasador … spoke out of line (my guess he was testing the waters) and when Indian FM did some plain talking … Pakistan PM had to intervene and bascially say the guy did not know what he was saying.
Re: India left choiceless; must wait for Pakistani response
I appreciate the indian PM and HM diplomatic efforts, thereby brining international pressure on Pak govt. to act against the terrorist outfits. Not necessarily battles should be won on the field.
Well as i said this bravado is fine … since you personally don’t have to face the heat … it is the poor PM who has to go to every forum and defend Pakistan and then has to do the u-turn and admit to whatever has happened.
As for India the bark has worked better then the bite … Pakistan has to act against the guys it once was nurturing … some more inputs for you .. a first indeed !!!
For the first time in its history, Pakistan plans on prosecuting militants once supported by the country’s powerful spy agency – a group of as many as 125 people who a Pakistani investigation has concluded might be connected to the November attacks on Mumbai
Re: India left choiceless; must wait for Pakistani response
I am sorry but you know exactly what happens to the "special children" in Pakistan and India. Sure they are prosecuted and then they escape from police custody and attack India again. Everybody knows this game rather well.
Put it this way if the guys in FATA are still there even with the US pressure. What makes you think the Pakistani establishment frets over those who attacked India. It is not an issue of morality, but of reality. They don't care. These guys won't be touched and they will continue to do retarded stuff that gives normal Pakistanis a rough time.
Re: India left choiceless; must wait for Pakistani response
thank you pakistan for cracking down on JuD/LeT, and carrying on the investigation (sorry to see they are now targeting ahmedis). hopefully this will lead to better understanding on how to coordinate intelligence better and avoid being exploited by hardliners on both sides who wish for wars.
Got Pakistan going? Err when did the Mumbai attacks happen? And what has Pakistan done so far that has benefitted India?
What happened to all the Bravado India had regarding us? All you guys do is bark. No bite.
And what else Pakistan can do? Pakistan takes any action or not.....everything will go against it.
Is pakistan left with any choice? No......
And for this simple reason Pakistan' so-called Govt is changing its stand everyday.
A country which disowned its soldier in a war (re Kargil).....will recognize its terrorists......sometimes they call them non-state actors....sometimes they say the terrorists are dead....sometimes they say...they are from Pakistan...we will take action....we will not take action.....is there a single theme where this state Pakistan concentrating at?
