I understand what you are trying to say, but I think one of the most important factor in Nation building is patritism. Business and economics come second.
US refused to give Supercomp tech to India, then it was Patritism of India to say we would develop our own. PARAM was developed.
US gave bad grains to India - this was the start of the Green revolution in India.
In both these instances if we had no patritism and we only thought of business we could not have acieved anything.
India did learn from these and now we do not need anyones help to reach outer space, rather we can help others.
"We can do it" is something you have to tell yourself to achieve something. Likewise for a country.
