`A friend in need is a friend indeed’.
For decaded Soviet Union had been India's friend.A staunch supporter,a close ally equipped this country militarily strong after having suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of China and a benign neglect by U.S after 1965 war.Indo-Soviet feriendship helped not only India but it also helped Bangla people to preserve their identity and culture ,after a cultural and ethnic progrom started by `somebody',who ruled that county for more than two decades. But the collapse of Soviet Union did not end India's military relationships with Russia and it continues to till this day.
But India-Israel relationship, though as perceived commonly that it started very recently, also dates back to the penultimate years of 1960's.Israel helped India militarily, during India's Bangla liberation endeavours(India had used Israeli Israeli 166 mm artilleries in the war).Though Indian leadership had not established any close diplomatic relationship with Israel until the end of 1960's,India soon realized the importance of Isreal and accepted Irsael offer,to help India militarily, readily accpeted.Eversince though surreptitiously, the nexus grew and by 90's the relationship was no mopre a secret and even the leaders from both countries started visiting each other's countries.
Then came the Kargil war of 1999,and Israel rushed to India with quick response by supplying aerial vehicles, and other important key defence aid.Now the military co-opeartion has gone to extreme heights ,paramounting all other relationships.Even Kashmir and it's people are indebted to Israel and it's technology because India has been extensively using Israeli technology in Terrorism counter measures in Kashmir :)
The cultural relationship and other ties are going on very well. Both countries also discuss FTA.There is a huge flow of Isreali tourists in to India every year ,and each year the number goes up.
So this relation is going to take newr heights in the coming years .
I personally feel that this relationship is going to protect two of the great cultures of the world, each other ![]()
