The birth rate in India is 2.8, in Pakistan it is 3.5 in 2009. Interestingly, they are both down from 3.1 and 4.0 respectively during the first half of this decade (the world birth rate declined from 2.65 to 2.55 during this same period). Another interesting thing is **the top 40 nations in birth rate are either Muslim, African, or both. **Ironic…given the focus on preventing “zina” in Muslim culture. “Zina”=the greatest evil on the globe but having 10 kids after marriage even though you make 50 cents a day is healthy according to the ulema and molvi’s. :rotfl:

What is ironic that Iran, in spite of their religious upbringing, has been heralded by many nations for their successful family planning policies. If Pakistan were to adopt Iran’s family planning policy, the birth rate would decrease.
On another note, I’d like to see any Pakistani poster on here refute what you stated. I guess Pakistanis like to take pride in having 10-20 children, even though the country is illiterate and backwards. God, I’m ashamed to be Pakistani.

Actually, someone who is humble stops short of ever boasting anything he does not have.
The reason as I have already stated is because you Indians need to be brought down a notch.
The greatest crimes of human history have been commited by the arrogant and deluded... By shattering your well cultivated persona, we are actually doing the world a great service. We already have seen the damage done as a result of Indian arrogance, in places like Kashmir among others.
As for not knowing your problems, this whole thread is dedicated to "understanding" those very problems. In fact, I think this thread is far more informative for people like you ten for those like us.

Yeah but they are not declining fast enough. For instance, even though Pakistan is down to 3.5 that means that each generation is still almost doubling the population.
Yeah whatever Iran did has worked very well. They went from 7.0 to 2.0 (on par with the US) in 20 years. Do you know what in particular they did?
Look at the top 5 in birth rates. Let's compare that to their rankings in per capita GDP.

I am actually a bit surprised that India has been able to maintain this lead in spite of the huge population problem. Political instability and religious extremism has pushed Pakistan down from progressing, in spite of the smaller population and better natural resource base

The reason you have a lead is because Nehru was a damn fine leader. His policies on Land reform were revolutionary and that is what transformed India in my opinion.
