this alliance will be a moderating inflluense on wahabism in pakistan.
With all the animosity built up toward Iran from their taking of American hostages during their revolution, it is hard to believe that Americans might ultimately be looking at them as a moderating and stabalizing influence in the Middle East and Asia. Yet, if the moderates and the young in Iran can break the iron fist of clerical rule, that is very likely the progressive role Iran can play.
The article cited provides some real interesting facts and analysis regarding the potential realignment of interests in that part of the world. rvikz, thanks for the post.
Since Iran is alreay part of axis of evil, does it mean India will soon join this distinguished club, being so chummy with robe-wearing Iranians?

No. I think Iran is more likely to drop out of the club than India is to join it. Iran will soon accept the well thought out doctrine of Groucho Marx: i.e. "I wouldn't want to be in a club that would have me as a member. "
I will like to think so too, re: Iran, but the recent hooplah over nuclear mines and "civilian vs military" use is not going to die down anytime soon.
And yeah, India is a long shot to join this exclusive club, cz they are such a huge market for America. Like all good businessmen, Uncle Sam thinks from his pockets too, especially when making military and strategic decisions.
Cheap oil. Cheap labor. Sell stuff. Same thing.

Oh that they will just wait until they start ringing their nuke bell out in the open.
There are only a handful of Iranis in India. But they are most successful and model minorities. The way they have integrated into Indian society is remarkable. They have given 1000 folds what India has given them.
abdali it has to do with stability about the reagion
India’s help to Afghanistan to battle the Taliban and help check the spread of Islamic fundamentalism to the Central Asian countries, most of which have large Muslim populations, is appreciated by the regional countries.
New Delhi’s generous assistance for the reconstruction of war-shattered Afghanistan has also been noticed in the region, which sees India as an ideal foil for the great power rivalry for the riches of their region. Yashwant Sinha, who was received by the top leaders of both Kyrgystan and Tajikistan during his visit, announced the setting up of an Indian Centre at the Kyrgyz National State University. —IANS

What a joke! India isn't checking any extremism. It is just trying to negate the taliban which pak. used to support. It supports the northen alliance and other factions opposing taliban to continue its present domination in afghanistan. That money isn't being send to reconstruct afghanistan but it is going to help the alliance fight any taliban backlash.
P.S. India is in afghanistan, just like many other nations, for the natural resources there. India has no interest in developing the battered country. No one has.

Go and ask Jamali who is washing Iranians' feet in IRAN
[/QUOTE]
Dont get over-emotional. Reply his statement. Pakistan is doing no feet washing, just improving ties with iran, partnership with iran would be mutually beneficial for both. Khatami went to islamabad as well, its no feet washing, its time for the two countries, whov'e not had a gd relationship in the past, to bury it and move on.
