India has called for a “treaty of peace, security and friendship” with Pakistan that would replace decades of hostility with a common quest for progress
“The time has come to leave behind the animosities and the misgivings of the past and to think the unthinkable of moving together in pursuit of our common objective of getting rid of chronic poverty, ignorance and disease,” said Mr Manmohan Singh, honourable Prime Minister.
“I make this offer to the people of Pakistan on this historic occasion,” Singh said in Amritsar before inaugurating a new bus service between the two countries.
“I am sure the leadership of Pakistan will reciprocate.”
Singh said India was committed to the peace process, adding that it could bring enormous economic benefits to the people of both sides. And there was a growing recognition in both countries that “terrorism is an enemy of civilised societies”.
**“I have often said that borders cannot be redrawn but we can work towards making them irrelevant – towards making them just lines on a map” **said Mr. Manmohan Singh, honourable Prime Minister
“General (Pervez) Musharraf has taken concrete steps to curb terrorism and I compliment him for that. But more needs to be done in the interest of both India and Pakistan,” Singh said, referring to the Pakistani president.
You do realise that Pakistan has been calling for:
1. A peace treaty since 2001.
2. A nuclear free zone between Pakistan and India before he 1998 tests. We still call for it now. Its India that refuses to discuss it.
3. India refuses to discuss the one contentious issue between the two countries. Kashmir.
The point my dear boy is how much did you sell out to get that nuclear deal and why can't you just admit India has always refused having peace in the region?
that’s absurd. india has always refused having peace??? dost, its INDIAN PRIME MINISTER MR MANMOHAN SINGH who proposes the treaty of peace. it’s india’s initiatives. can’t u see the simple contrast.
and secondly, whole of the world know nuclear technology in india is developed indegeneosly. There has not been the single claim against it. whereas whole of the world also knows about abdul quadir khan and where the paki nukes come from…:halo:
what president? in india, and pak too, atleast officially, its a parliamentary system of government.
please learn how your government runs, and then we can talk about how legitimate the offers of peace are, and whether they are coming from a person with authority to make such offers.
