USA isnt demanding that we buy all our resources through them...
Pakistan choose to extricate itself from the tribal areas, very much in contrast to Americas approach.
Pakistan has choosen to deal with Iran on the IPI... Obviously not in Americas intrst.
India is defienently not America.. Pakistan buys much of its military equipment from America bacause of quality, which is not a characteristic of India military equipment. However, where we have seen other advantages, we have taken them... Hence the extensive dealings with the Chinese.
Pakistan probably can provide comparable military hardware to Sri Lank to what India provides, perhaps even at better price, and China can definently provide better quailty then India.

is there any such thing as a truly independent country? sri lanka depends on indian govt to prohibit LTTE operating out of india (which india has done a great job in the past decade and a half), and given how big the LTTE menace currently is to sri lanka, it has good reason to listen to india's opinions.
Last I checked, LTTE has always been a problem... Now they are attacking by air and by sea... I mean, have you been reading the news?
Still, advice is worth listen to no matter where it comes from, if its good advice... In this case, this is bad advice, given not as advice but as a cloacked threat.

and i dont think india should oppose any thing which sri lanka does with other countries as long as they dont allow them to establish military bases. When both parties are willing, then india should mediate and solve this problem (with great caution)

India has tried to get involved before in Tamil issues and look where that got you...

India is a power in the region. Nobody will deny it. May be Pakistan but they are always in denial. I dont think narayanan said something that is not true. The jist is that India doesn’t want to have its adversaries opening shops in the south as well. India is already in it. Thousands of people from Sri lanka are in refuge camps all through out the south of Tamil nadu. Like it or not as long as tamils are there with Indian union, Indian govt cannot be kept out of it.
Sri lanka knows very well that LTTE with Indian support would take out the whole of the north of Srilanka out of the Island.

India has been supporting Sri lanka and it doesnt want anybody else supporting it leading to the death or the mass migration of tamils from srilanka. This India cannot accept. :)

if that is the case then why doesn't India supply offensive weaponry to Sri Lanka?
why only radars and other cosmetic stuff like that?
why not rocket launchers, anti-tank missiles, etc, which Sri Lanka needs and which India fails to provide and thus forcing Sri Lanka to turn to Pakistan and China?
And how is it that the Tamil Tigers continue to get ammo supplies to Sri Lanka?
I doubt that the Tamil Tigers have factories which are producing weaponry. Mostly its smuggled from Tamil Nadu in India and shipped by sea to Sri Lanka and the rest is stolen from the Sri Lankan Army.
Why would Sri Lanka trust India over its fight with Tamil Terrorists, when India has vested interests with the LTTE?

oh...why should india support LTTE when they turned against us only?...and regarding those accusations, let it come from lankan government. when they are not telling any such thing, you shut up.
this was the same guy who was excited when mushy offered to mediate in middle east between israel and others. and when sri lankan president says, only india can solve the problem and asks for mediation, then this guy says he lost trust or whatever of his country. Double standards!

India has refused to sell offensive weaponry to Sri Lanka and then interfered in Sri Lankan's affairs by telling Sri Lanka it can't buy weapons from Pakistan and China.
Does this look like a country who is trying to mediate a dispute.
Musharraf's offer was to mediate between Israel and Palestine just like Norway is trying to do between LTTE and Sri Lanka
Pakistan is not telling Sri Lanka how to dictate its foreign policy.

India's main problem, not just with Pakistan but with all its neghbors is this very hegmonic attitude of yours...

Pakistan will never ofcourse, and I doubt all you neighbors are willing to be bullied.
And India can be in anything, but its up to Sri Lanka to dceide where it buys its equipment... You try to justify your countries involvement by saying that you have their refugees, but then you would also Justify Pakistan involvement in Afghanistan, considering we have 2 million of their refugees, although I doubt Indian would ever agree there... Bit of hypocracy there no? And if Pakistan tries to cut of Indians from influencing the Afghans as we have, the same way you are trying to cut of Sri Lanka from outside intrests, by not allowing direct trade between Afghanistan and India through Pakistan, you shouldnt have a problem with that, although I know Indians do have a problem with that. So if its ok in the case of Srti Lanka, then it ok with us.
And I would let the Sri Lankans decide who they need, not India... India looks ridiculous trying to be the big brother in the region... Fix you many problems before asking us to look up to you buddy.

India is saying that Sri Lanka shouldnt be buying defense material from Pakistan and China... Obviously, this is not the stance of the Sri Lankans, as they are purchasing some sort of defensive material from us, hence the Indian rant.
Now there is reason for us to complain... We have a lot to gain from Sri Lanka and other countries making deals with us... Im sure you wouldnt appreciate any country dictating how other countriues should deal with you.. So I hope you understand that no country is willing to be side lined by any other country in the region...
If you think Pakistan is wrong in its distrust of India, then this is a perfect example of something that justifes that belief.
Earning respect is one thing, but in this casde, India is demanding respect, and I doubt anyone is going to give it the respect it thinks it deserves.

India is handicapped in its support to Sri Lanka
LTTE terrorists get their weaponry from Tamil Nadu.
India won't dare give Sri Lanka offensive weaponry so that Sri Lanka will have the capability to defeat the LTTE because its own Tamil population will get angry.
India will only supply Sri Lanka with defensive weaponry so that LTTE terrorists continue to attack and Sri Lanka on some future date gives up the fight and divides the island nation.
This is India's goal.
When Sri Lanka looks to other countries for weapons such as Pakistan and China, India acts all concerned about Sri Lanka.
