Re: India has rights of an elder brother, says Lanka.
We have our influence. Indian forces were able to drive away LTTE from Jaffna and confine them to jungles. SriLanka bungled it afterwards. We are doing our part to uphold the peace in Srilanka by isolating and buffering the southern Indian sea's. Even Srilanka dont have any complaint that India is providing or supplying arms to LTTE. In return we are asking for going mild on the tamil civilians. Is that too bad. No international agencies have anything good to say about SriLankan forces. Only India justifies and understand some of their actions, alienating some sections of Indian citizens. After doing all this, if Srilanka decides to store itself with weapons which kill in mass numbers, then India has all the right in the world to say that this is not at all acceptable.
If its trade that u r worried about then why dont we, India and Pakistan, have a proper trade. A big, 1 billion population would have pleased anybody to come and trade with India. I havent seen any reports in india about banning Pakistani goods. Antagonizing India should have been done on human grounds, in that way u can sell that to the rest of the world. May be India has ulterior motives in aiding Afghanistan, but no country in the world will find it out of ordinary. But supplying weapons to countries involved in killing its own citizens is not what world will like too much. Remember no western countries think positively about SriLankan armed forces and Royal Army of Nepal. Does Pakistan want to be called a mercenary country.
Yaar, your going of on these wild tangents...
Simple point... What you do in Sri Lanka is irrelevant. Im glad your such humanitarians, but the bottom line is that India cannot dictate to anyone who they should or should not be dealining with...
Perhaps no western country thinks well of the Sri Lankan Army (thats doesnt stop India from supporting them), but that again is not the point. The debate is regarding Indias claims that its a big brother in the region and should be respected, and should be turned to for any support. This is against Pakistans intrest. India is also opposed to China supporting Sri Lanka.
Indias statement wasnt in regards to the moral or ethical issues involved, but to self promotion.
I cite Afghanistan only as an analogy... Afghanistan is to Pakistan, as Sri Lanka is to India.
In the end, India is free to do whatever it wants, but hegemony arrises when India refuses others in the region an equal and level playing field.
