India Has Edge Over Pakistan

India have an edge over Pakistan: Tendulkar

MUMBAI: Sachin Tendulkar claims that outside Sharjah, India have “a psychological” advantage over Pakistan, whom they will meet in a World Cup match on March 1 at the Supersport Park, Centurion, South Africa.

Tendulkar, reviewing India-Pakistan World Cup matches in his presentation on ESPN television channel scheduled for Wednesday’s telecast, took note of the fact that India have beaten Pakistan in all three World Cup matches so far. He recollects the 1992 Adelaide World Cup match with Pakistan, terming it as “the best game I had played.”

But, he said, India also had terrific games in Bangalore in 1996 and in 1999 in England against the same rivals, according to an ESPN release.

However, Tendulkar takes note of the fact that both India and Pakistan had gone through several team changes since 1999 and believes the key will be how newcomers take extra pressure the contests always put. He does not agree that all-rounders like Shoaib Malik and Abdur Razzaq may give Pakistan an edge. “As far as we are concerned we play Pakistan and not individuals in their team. We play them as a team and we play as a team as well,” is his response. He makes it very clear that these are his views but he is not taking anything for granted, particularly against Pakistan. “It is going to be a big game and I am keeping my fingers crossed,” he concluded.

Though India might have an edge over Pakistan in the battind department but as far as psychological issue is concern, both teams are equal.
Both teams have pressure to win because of such magnitude of the match. History doesn't matter.
Guys like Tendulkar might think that previous victories might give them advantage but from the Pakistani point of view, its a brand new day.

agreed umair:k:

No one has advantage.if India can bost to have 2nd best batting line up the pakistan also has 2nd best bolwing line up.
Infect pakitsan has slight advatnage over India after Youhana and Inzi are back.On anyday anyteam can beat other team.

Actually Pakistan has the best bowling lineup, specially with Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib.
Mistake forgiven! :)

I admire Tendulkar's batting skills, but that was just a plain old DUMB statement. India might have beaten Pakistan in all the world cup matches but Pakistan's overall record against India is just awsome.

I believe its going to be a great match and Pakistan hopefully will turn things around as far as the world cup record against India is concerned.

I saw this interview yesterday on ESPN and he was generally of the view that India is a better team then pakistan (DUH!!!) in pressure situations :rotfl: and since india beaten pakistan in WC 99 Pak has only two-three changes (wrong again). Well i guess this program is recorded some time ago! and since that lineup pakistan will have prolly 5-6 new players as things stand now!

those being
Faisal Iqbal, Saleem Elahi, Yousuf Youhana, Rashid Latif, Waqar Younis.

and players who wont be there will be Ijaz , Salim Malik, Azhar mahmood, Moin Khan(probably).

So he is mistaken indeed or it is an old program which i belaive so.

India has improved a lot aver the last 12 months but Pakistan still has the explosive bowling power that India has always missed. It will be a good game, that's for sure.

I don't consider them a weak team, but how does winning three world cup matches give them an edge over Pakistan? Australia would look good saying that they have an edge over Pakistan because of the thrashing we received in last world cup's final (that too only a psychological one).

But it also makes sense to me. With the miserable record they have against Pakistan in one-day cricket (most of which is blamed on the "unfavorable conditions in Sharjah"), this is the only "achievement" they can cherish and celebrate!

Indian media and players are quite sensible as long as they are not speaking about the Indian team. This comment is just ludicrous at best.

BULLSEYE!!!

VERY WELL SAID!

Sachin’s performance in the thre worldcup matches is as follows…

1992 Sydney 54* off 62 balls
1996 Bagalore 31 off 59 balls
1999 Manchester 45 off 65 balls

Not that big of a deal! except for Sydney’s game.

Tendulkar usually buckles up in big games. He will keep the tradition in Centurion on March 1st, 2004.

I predict the following

SR Tendulkar b Razzaq 6 off 10balls

Go Pakistan! :jhanda:

:rotfl: thats funny .. hope it turns out to b true :k:
