Indian security forces say they have foiled another attempt by militants to infiltrate the international border in Indian-administered Kashmir. Indian officials said there had been an exchange of fire between the Pakistani side and the Indian forces.
They said it was the fourth time they had foiled a bid by militants to cross the border since the beginning of 2010.
About 30,000 troops have been withdrawn from Indian-administered Kashmir as rebel attacks have decreased.
The incident happened in the Kanachak area, about 35km (21 miles) west of Jammu city, on Sunday night.
Officials of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) said there had been an exchange of fire between them and from the Pakistani side.
On Monday morning, Indian security officials said they had found the wire fencing on the border “cut at two points”.
“Militants are taking advantage of the thick fog along the international border,” the official said.
Indian Defence Minister AK Antony is due to visit the border areas near Jammu on Tuesday to assess the situation following the infiltration attempts.
