India 'diverts funds for poor to pay for Commonwealth games'

Re: India 'diverts funds for poor to pay for Commonwealth games'

measuring India by dollars is not correct when 100 % of food and shelter need are met within India,
vast availability of cultivatable land (food) is one of the many reasons that population has exploded in India,
India cannot give its poor money just like that, they have to evolve like lot of us have over last 63 years, there is vibrant politics, democracy and free for all Constitution which makes sure that the development happens.

there is a huge population and it is very difficult to find jobs for everyone, imagine the number of avenues that we have to invent just to create jobs. Indian economy is only partially opened to international investment if you compare with USA and China,
FDi flow to China per year is about 100 Billion $ and to India is about 10 Billion $, India grows at 8-9% and China grows at 10-11%, that means most of our growth happens because of internal developments and not because of foreign investments,
simply, we are having commonwealth games because we can afford it and we want it,
India cannot give money to all the poor, we can only create economic policies, from the 90,s till today millions of people have entered the middle class and they will continue to do so because of our economical policy and diversity.

spokesperson of pakistan have given wonderful calculations but no web site...

and if we have to beleive their versions...we indians must be very clever that we have successfully misled the whole world except pakistan.

Which, of course, is why nearly half of all children under 5 in India are malnourished:

I didn’t even bother reading the rest of the post.

Janabi,
Again you demonstrate your selective reading. I put up this link because this is the lowest estimate of indian middle class available on net.
You have conveniently took 2005 figures to come up with this no. of middle class ( You havent secified this anywhere previously). The estimate for 2015 is much higher. They based their work on a growth of 7% a year which is what India is achieving even during the economic downturn.
I admire your ability to skew the stats to your argument very easily.
We in india call the aspirers as low middle class. this is a huge chunk of population. This constitute 43%. These people are not poor. They get 9 K salary a month. That with 21 % of so upper middle class people will constitute the majority of indian population.

And yet somehow 100 million more people plunged into poverty in India during the downturn. That doesn’t really bode well for the rapid growth of the middle class.

I admire your ability to jump into the conversation and ramble on endlessly about things completely irrelevant to the issue on hand.

I don’t care how you personally define “middle class.” I don’t care who you call “middle class.” For the last time, the issue that was being discussed was the number of people in India with purchasing power similar to that of the middle classes in the US and Europe…regardless of what name you want to give them. I specifically avoided using the term “middle class” for this very reason, until your buddies started throwing it around. If you want to call people earning 300 rs/day “middle class,” that’s your own prerogative, but its completely irrelevant.

selective lecture and no patience…do we really need to care for a spokesperson of…

Speakin sense and putting down facts, !!! Indians usually run into comprehension problems… Ah yes the great below the povrty line and mighty growing middle class by Indian standards of course. Other then that only Indian illegal aliens have gone up by 100 percent in amreeka refusing to return to the paradise, this is just one tiny attribute of such mighty progress.

This is directly from Indian govt. 836 million is big number..

http://nceus.gov.in/Condition_of_workers_sep_2007.pdf

The number of persons belonging to this group increased from 811 million in 1999-00 to 836 million in 2004-05.
