India is on 3rd spot with 116 points in the latest ICC ODI ranking. Pakistan is next on 4th spot with 114 points.
Now it will be more interesting to follow the next 2 ODI’s between the two, since the result could change their rankings.
Lets consider the following possibilites and the resultant changes in the ranking
India 2-0 victory: India will be on 118 points just 1 point short of SA who are on 2nd spot with 119. Pakistan on the other hand will drop down to 5th spot with 112 points. NZ will be on 4th spot with 113
1-1 series level: No ranking or point changes.
Pakistan 2-0 victory (Inshallah): Pakistan will be on 3rd spot with 116 points and India will get what Pakistan currently has i.e. 4th spot and 114 points.
Nevertheless, a superb acheivement by Indian team during the last one year period. Same time last year, they were on #8 in the ICC table.
Two indivuduals, Yuvraj and Dhoni, who played major roles in victories durng this one year period, can be seen in ICC top 10 ODI players. Dhoni is now sitting on #2 right after Ponting.
No Pakistani player can now be seen in Top 10 ODI players. The only one we had last time was Mohammad Yousuf who was on 10th and now has moved to 12th.

Re: India battles Pakistan in DLF Cup to retain # 3 spot
The article at CricInfo also points out the consistent ODI victories for India, totaling 17 out of last 22 outings, which, in itself, is a major accomplishment, and they did so against qualified teams in the league today. I do believe, with the current crop of young and already-established batsman who, alongwith their vast skills and qualifications, have thrusted themselves as the backbone of Indian team, that they have one of the most consistent squads in one-day cricket, and on any given day, they are capable of thrashing their opponent with a wide margin, much to the delight of Dravid/Chappell methodology which has worked wonders for Team India.
Re: India battles Pakistan in DLF Cup to retain # 3 spot
Let's see who fares in the desert? Pak or India..
At this point, I can't really put any team for sure of their win. But on papers, India look favorites but you never know. Maybe, Inzi and his "boyzz" could pull the trigger and make a best of the deal for Pak.. So goodluck Inzi and Dravid....

I agreed. Just to re-articulate what you said in desi eshtyle. One team's ass will be kicked. I dont know which one. :D
