BANDALA, PAKISTAN — Villagers in three areas along the de facto border between Indian- and Pakistani-controlled Kashmir said this past week that they had fled their homes in fear after intense shelling and firing from the Indian side but that they did not believe India’s claim Thursday that it had sent armed troops to conduct late-night “surgical strikes” on militant targets there.*
In several dozen interviews, residents of the Bhimber, Chamb and Sahmani districts adjoining the Line of Control said they had been jarred from sleep by the barrage of firepowerWednesday. But none said they had seen or heard anything that supported India’s claim that it carried out cross-border strikes on several staging areas for militant groups that left “double digits” of militants dead.
Pakistani officials have repeatedly denied India’s claims, saying that Indian troops only fired small arms across the Line of Control, killing two Pakistani soldiers. Tensions between the rival nuclear powers are at the highest level in a decade.
Muhammad Bota, 40, a mason in this hillside village, said that his son woke him up shouting, “India has attacked!” and that the night was filled with noise.
“We are used to routine shelling, but this was unending, with deafening sounds,” he said. “We believed it was the start of war, and I prayed for the safety of my family and recited all the Koran verses I could remember.”
But Bota, like many other residents interviewed, said he did not see any signs of Indian troops attacking or crossing the fortified line less than a mile away.
“All the villagers were up, and we didn’t see any troops from the other side or helicopters,” he said. “India says it killed militants here, but the people who live here know each other for generations. If there were some militants somewhere around, they couldn’t have gone undetected. This is all propaganda of India.”
IK may have attended previous such meetings, but it still is a topi drama. When there is a parliament for exactly such matters, then there is no need for APCs, or parliamentary party meetings. Its just ridiculous. Another excuse for them to pig out on their lavish lunch menus at the public’s expense.
I think the reason was that PMLN and PPP wanted Bilawal to be there, as PMLN is using PPP as a counterweight to PTI. But sadly, Bilawal has done little to quell the notion that he is a reflection of his father.

ہندوستان اور پاکستان کے درمیان مسئلہ کشمیر نام کی اگر کوئی چیز تھی۔۔تو ہم نے اسے 1948 میں کشمیر پر قبائلیوں اور پاک آرمی کا حملہ کرا کر تباہ کردیا تھا۔ کیونکہ ابھی کشمیر کے مستقبل کا تعین ہونا باقی تھا۔ لیکن اس کے صلے میں ہمیں بہرحال پاکستانی قبضے والا “آزاد کشمیر” مل گیا۔ پاکستانی حملہ کرنے کے نتیجے میں انڈیا کو بھی کشمیر کا ایک حصہ مل گیا۔ کہ وہاں انڈین فوج کو کشمیر کے راجہ نے طلب کرلیا۔ دوسری بار مسئلہ کشمیر کو ہمارے جنرلوں نے اس وقت تباہ کردیا۔ جب انہوں نے لشکر طیبہ، حزب االمجاہدین اور جیش محمد کو ‘جہاد کشمیر’ کےلئے گود لے لیا۔ اب کشمیر کا مسئلہ نہ قومی آزادی کا تھا۔ نہ تقسیم ہند کا نامکمل ایجنڈا۔۔۔ دنیا کی برادری کے سامنے اب مسئلہ کشمیر ایک جہادی اسلامی انتہاپسند تحریک کا نام ہے۔ اب دنیا میں قیامت تو آسکتی ہے۔ لیکن کوئی اسلام کے نام پر ملک نہیں بن سکتا۔ یا تقسیم نہیں کیا جاسکتا۔ یہ اقوام عالم کا تہیہ ہے۔ اسی لئے اقوام متحدہ کو وہ قرارداد بالکل یاد نہیں۔۔ نہ اس کی کوئی وقعت ہے۔ جس میں استصواب رائے کی بات کی گئی تھی۔ وہ ایک صفحے کا ڈاکومنٹ ہے۔ اس کی پہلی لائن ہی پاکستان کے خلاف ہے۔ کہ وہ ‘آزاد کشمیر’ سے اپنی فوجیں واپس کرے۔ لیکن 70 سال سے 20 کروڑ پاکستانیوں کو مسلسل بے وقوف اور جذباتی بنایا ہوا ہے۔[/RIGHT]
