India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

Mashallah. India has a $1 trillion economy, and we should see a lot of FDI flowing in if these kinds if all trade barriers are dropped.

Ties across the border have warmed up *
*
India and Pakistan have boosted trade ties with a truck carrying goods across the border for the first time since partition 60 years ago. The journey over a 50-km road link is a major step in the peace process between the two countries, which have gone to war three times since independence. Analysts say trade between the two countries could reach $6bn a year if both sides ease restrictions.

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

yeah flowing in n going straight into the pockets of corrupt rulers, leaders and ministers…leaving common pakistanis with empty promises of a better future and economical boom which is always a day away…:k: :halo:

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

Free trade with India will force us shut down our major industies.

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

^^ exactly..without kasmir Problem ..ther should not be any trade ....

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

actually wouldnt it be cheaper to produce in pak compared to india considering the pak ruppee strength?

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

^^ its not an import only way,

if someone think properly Pakistan will have much huge market to sell its goods. Pak will have extra 1 billion plus and india will have 160 million people to sell its goods.

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

Despite the Indian Rupees strength, things are still cheaper in India. However, it comes down to ones entrepreneurial spirit to find out what items, cheaper in Pakistan, will sell better in India. The salt industry for one will reap huge benefits by selling salt in India. As per my knowledge, the price of salt is 8 - 10 times higher in India. Then we need to find those value added products which can get premium price in India, like, some bridal fashion apparels. There is always a demand for new/different fashion.

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

If you read academic papers on SAFTA (The South Asian Free Trade Agreement) all of them agree that the only one that benefits is India. Economists have been very very careful not to go into details of what will happen in the smaller SAARC countries but the general idea is their industries would shut down completely.

Secondly I would consider a boosting of trade ties when we give each other MFN status and not before.

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

India should puruse a free trade agreement with China, and then it will get totally flooded by Chinese-made goods. :D

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

Make Trade not War.

God Bless Pakistan. :jhanda:

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

Agreed.
Whatever trade we have at present is skewed in India's favour. Our imports from India are 5 times less than exports.

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

Oh do not export my job to India.

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

^^ Pakistan has surplus, outsourcing to India from Pak is very remote chance! however it can be otherway around towards Pakistan. Pakistan still have un tapped resource pool which indian can use to capitalise their existing strong outsourcing industry. I think TATA is already leading the way in Pakistan.

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

Alahamdulilallah. Good to see Indian and Pakistani companies working together.

Make Trade, Not War. :jhanda:

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

what industries? so far trade seems to be all kinds of produce filling in gaps in local production. tomatoes! cattle! you guys make it sound like the blooming semiconductor industry of multan is under severe threat from indian imports.

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

I am not sure if that is what all India does besides Java/C++, but in Pakistan we have several industries like fans, airconditioners, refrigerators/freezers, TV (tubes), plastic industry, cars/motorbikes (assembly) etc.

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

watch out they stand no chance against indian Quad-Core from cow-dung valley. :)

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

captain, have you seen the list of items on the current trade list?

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

It should have been done decades ago - but at that time the inept Paki armed forces needed a villain to rob and pimp the country. Even though it has never been a question that Pakistani armed forces never really stood a chance against India after the bitter defeat in 71'. The point got further strengthened after losing almost all of Siachin in the late 80s, and losing strategic edge over Kashmir in the mid 2000.

The only way this blood sucking institution could stay in power and continue to *bulgarize * and embezzle country's resources was to find a new enemy and justify its existence; which it did by joining the band-wagon of global war on terrorism. Now it has no other option to bow down to India and BEG for peace, when there was never any reason to make war at the first place....

Re: India and Pakistan in historic trade boost.

food is basic need of human life, once "trading" becomes easier, restrictions are lowered, do you still think trade will remain limited to these items?
