NEW DELHI: The Indian government has blamed that the bulk of SMS and MMS that triggered panic among the northeastern people had been traced to Pakistan and a protest would be lodged with Islamabad.
“Pakistan is trying to create trouble by inciting people. This exposes its attempt at cyber warfare against India,” said Union Home Secretary RK Singh.
In bulk of the rumours that triggered panic among the people of northeastern states in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra were sourced from Pakistan, RK Singh said. “A total of 76 websites were identified where morphed images were uploaded and bulk of these were uploadded in Pakistan,” Singh said. “We believe it is highly reprehensible. I think it needs to be made known to everybody that this is something that is being done from Pakistan. The bulk of it has been done from Pakistan,” he said.
He said all these websites had since been blocked. As a step towards rumours being spread, the government has imposed a 15-day ban on bulk SMS and MMS. Apart from these websites, 34 more have been identified and the government was in the process of blocking them soon, he said.
Over 30,000 northeast people have left Bangalore fearing attacks on them while many of them have fled Chennai and Pune in the last three days, notwithstanding assurances from the Centre and the state governments.
The home secretary said the details would be provided to the external affairs ministry so that it could take up the matter with Pakistan.

India's behavior is so childish that it makes me laugh. They probably blame pakistan even if they get constipated. So much for "we have left Pakistan behind" and "we are so cool and advanced that we no longer compare ourselves to Pakistan".

Constipated or even sneeze?
If Pakistan had done something even remotely similar all along, Pakistan would have solved Kashmir issue a long time ago. It is the fault of Pakistani foreign relations office to be so rigid on being good guys and not being 'creative'. :)

Curious article, curiouser headline. So Hindu extremist groups were behind 20% of the pages. Who is behind rest of the 80% of the pages? Why the headline doesn't contain that community's name ?

An Indian guy said to me that India does not want to divide its country or the voters so instead of blaming Hindus when they should be blamed or Muslims when they should be blamed they just go ahead and blame Pakistan. Everyone is united as a result.

You have to understand how social media (specially Twitter & Facebook works). Its like wild fire. You just have to set first tree on fire and it can burn down whole forest but blame still goes to the person who started the fire…

1) The news item mentions that 20 % of the websites blocked were about NE India
2) Hindu extremists were behind 20 % of the blocked sites?
What does this tell us??
The two datas are not necessarily inter-related. Let me explain. For the sake of simplicity, let us assume that a total of 100 sites are blocked.
20 were run by Hindu extremists.
80 were run by members of "other community".
also, out of the 100 sites, 20 were related with NE India. We don't know for sure which out of these were run by Hindu extremists or members "other community".
Still, the Times of India article posted by Decent 6Chora, (from which BBC article is also sourced) chooses to focus on the religion of those who hosted the 20% sites.
Completely ignoring the 80% elephant in the room.
Anyways, Indian media can be called, with some justification, Hindu-phobic as well as Pakistan-phobic.

^ 80 percent of the sites were related to Burma and *not NE India *(facebook pages, youtube videos, twitter feed etc) which have been blocked. The Indian minister a few days back suggested that the websites related to NE originated from Pakistan. Anyhow enjoy the websites that have been blocked, given in post 14.
