Re: Independence!

Interesting thread.
My guardian/father-figure. I was about ten, he was very ill and trying to prepare me for his leaving. He asked me to tell him everything I had learned in life thus far. I started reciting facts - capital cities, historical events etc. He stopped me and told me to spend a few days thinking it over and then to answer him. So I did, and when I went back to him and gave him my answer, we had a long talk and he defined independence for me.

Re: Independence!

I'd have to say both my parents; my dad for not treating me like a stereotypical girl so I grew up thinking I could do anything I wanted ( including being an engineer) and my mum for making sure I got the best education possible and for wanting me to be independent. And a little bit of my self too I guess, I've always done my own thing.

Re: Independence!

My Mother has been an independent woman all her life and she credits her Dad (My late Nana) for that.
