Re: Independence Day - United States
Freedom for its citizens. You can root for any foreign president and say obama murdabad without a sedition charge brought against you. You can marry the person of your choice without the fear of getting stoned outside a courthouse in front of the police. You can follow any religion you want, without getting sentenced to death. Nobody will slog you if you are not fasting. You fast only for the sake of Allah ta’aala. Not for the fear of some religious police. You have all kinds of rights that in most countries you cannot even think of.
As for the government, it works just the same way as any government in the world. It is surrounded by power brokers who weild influence and money as their tool. Nobody is preventing Arabs or muslims or Pakistanis to have their own lobbying groups. In fact they do, they just don’t do a good job of it. With one exception, Ahmed Chalabi. That is a whole other thread.
Stay with the big picture here. You might not agree with the policies of US, but you must agree with its principles. A lot of those principles have roots in Islam. We abandoned them and they adopted them.
PS: I must add, it is still the land of opportunity. You have to live it to know it.
