Increasing the size of a hard drive partition

I’m using a laptop with Windows XP. The hard drive is partitioned into a C and D drive. My C partition is almost full while the D drive has less than a gig of data but has about 45 gigs allocated to it. Is there a way to decrease the space allocated to the D drive and use that space for the C drive instead?

Re: Increasing the size of a hard drive partition

I’ve personally used Partition Magic for that purpose and it works without fail. I’ve been using this on offline and live systems for years.

If you want something free there is GParted. I personally haven’t used it on a live system so can’t tell you often about the functionality but here’s the documentation for it:

GPARTED DOCUMENTATION - RESIZING

Is this the site for partition magic?
Magic Partition Manager Software for PC/Server users

I don’t mind paying for it if it’s really good and easy to use.

:jazak: for the advice.

No, that link was for Gparted, which is a free utility.
Partition Magic you can get from here:

Partition Magic an excellent and very easy to use software

Re: Increasing the size of a hard drive partition

Doesn't it require formating of HDD after partition ?

Re: Increasing the size of a hard drive partition

No Namaan, it doesn't. It does require a couple of reboots but that's about it.

Re: Increasing the size of a hard drive partition

partition magic is very nice :)

Re: Increasing the size of a hard drive partition

oh and if you can reinstall windows then the partition manager in windows xp cd's boot can also help you out.

Re: Increasing the size of a hard drive partition
