Increasing drug use by middle class Pakistanis?

I have noticed this trend of middle-class kids in pakistan doing drugs liberally. It used to be that Pakistan was just a transit country for drugs for european destinations, but now the amount of drugs users in Pakistan has gotten large enough to start a “dosmetic” market for drugs. As in, that the smuglers make enough profit here from the Pakistani market that they would still be making money even if Pakistan wasnt a transit country.

Most of these kids smoke “hashish”, also called “charas” and ‘gardaa’. I’ve seen alot of kids just walking around smoking a hashish cigeretes openly, but hashish isnt too harmfull. But the increasing use of hard-drugs is plain disturbing. Kids have started doing heroin which was before, usually only confined to the really poot. Also, In big metropoltcan areas like Karachi they even have raves down there with ecstacy, cocaine and every drug imaginable.

So whats your opinion on the increasing drug use in Pakistan

Re: Increasing drug use by middle class Pakistanis?

Increase in the income of the middle class , increase in work life imbalance, increase in tension, lack of proper law and order and easy supply from our neighbor to the west will increase the use even more.

To keep the balance we need to empower the justice system, inform the youth and enforce the law.

Re: Increasing drug use by middle class Pakistanis?

Among the middle-class? I think you're just seeing bratty kids doing their thing...give them a good slap and they'll be fixed.

The bigger problem is among the hidden, lower-class and unemployed. They get hooked on drugs as a kind of medicine, and it's pretty much game over from there on...whereas I'm not willing to sympathize with the rich brats, I think these people need help and understanding.

Re: Increasing drug use by middle class Pakistanis?

It's not a iddle class problem. I have seen designer drugs being used in the higher class parties as well. And you might be surprised that a good number of females are also users.

Re: Increasing drug use by middle class Pakistanis?

Country is going thru a phase just like a teenager. They'll get over this nonsense once they start seeing the side-effects.

Re: Increasing drug use by middle class Pakistanis?

pakistan has seen a high influx of these very dangerous "designer drugs" because wheen teens come for break to pakistan from, school, they bring them in there pill bottles and noone checks, and then they sell these to unknowing kids who think this this stuff is cool. Pakistan has always had hashish users, and hashish is not that bad, but all these hard drugs are really bad.
Again, teens try these dangerous drugs because they perceive as it being cool and 'hip'.

Re: Increasing drug use by middle class Pakistanis?

so the designer drug problem is due to kids in foriegn universities bringing drugs in Pakistan?

come on dude..surely its more than that.

Re: Increasing drug use by middle class Pakistanis?

Yeah. There is no way a bunch of peope brining in drugs personally would result in a noticeable accumulation. It would take a plane load of people filling their in shampoo bottles to have such an impact that "ikarhoon" is making it out to be.

Re: Increasing drug use by middle class Pakistanis?

Do you really think kids who are studying abroad are so low on cash that they have to sell these designer drugs in Pakistan. The kids who bring these bring it for personal use not for selling. Somebody else most probably a local is involved in trafficking.

Re: Increasing drug use by middle class Pakistanis?

hardly shows some sort of designer drug crises in middle class pakistanis. Also, it does not support the prior statement that the drugs are brought in by pakistani students studying aborad.

bro did you even read the damn article?

here is a quote from the article

Whereas one tablet of 'E' could cost upto 4000 rupees a few years ago, it is now available for as little as 600 rupees. "It's easy to smuggle these drugs into Pakistan," says a dealer, "even college boys know it's a quick way to make cash. Who will be any wiser if anyone flying home from university in America or Europe substitutes Ecstasy for calcium tablets?

Re: Increasing drug use by middle class Pakistanis?

Drugs have always been a problem ... in Pakistan
Maybe not to that level thats being discussed here - but there is no denying it

It would do little to focus on the end users, middle class or rich or poor
If it has to be eliminated, the source has to be taken care of...
The supply chain. And I see serious problems there. This kinda business is not done by the average street peddlers... out to make a few bucks.

We are talking about the really big shots in Pakistan..
people who are well and truely connected..

Re: Increasing drug use by middle class Pakistanis?

since when is heroin considered a “designer drug”
heroin is an issue, and heroin was an issue in the 80’s as well.
