Incestuous Nature of Paki Fashion Industry

Is it just me or is it the same models/designers who seem to be attending each other’s fashion shows, collection launches, store openings etc… you loook at the magazines and it’s the same faces, the same designers every week. I mean is there any event that Maheen from Karma does not attend, same goes true for teh designer Saim. Does anyone really care besides their own social set? The only reason I see the social pages is to find out what new store has opened/collection has been launched (and most of the time the stupid editors never provide the contact details, even if you email them and ask. They have collection launch shoots in their magazine yet never provide stockist/designer contact details)

Since the demise of the movie industry designers and models are the current ‘in’ thing.

what do you guys think on this topic?

Re: Incestuous Nature of Paki Fashion Industry

I guess there needs to be more talent infusion!

i agree with u...

Great topic that you have brought up! The reason is very obvious Jubjub! If you look at the financial condition and situation of middle-class, including upper middle class and lower mid class, I think there is any hardly any family that can actually bear the costs of a Karma shalwar kamiz or Munib Nawaz churidaar or HSY lehnga. And let's not even talk about people who are below that line. I actually get shocked when they show a fashion show on tv where people are showing their bodies more than they are covering them talking about what will be "in" in the upcoming season and in the news, what is shown is that public has little or no access to basics like rice, flour, electricity etc etc. It's just super-elite class which is also the wanna-be class of pakistan that is into fashion shows, designer store inaugrations and what not. Actual public has way too many other things to worry about that they need to basically survive.

^^ Another thing I'd like to add. I don't mean to offend anyone here. It was my very own observation and thought and it may not and does not have to match everyone else's opinion.

I was going to say the same thing. I'm actually quite impressed by how vibrant Pakistan's fashion scene is, considering the relatively small size of the upper-class population that can afford to patronize luxury businesses. Unfortunately, there isn't much of a outside market for high-end regional ethnic clothing either (other than Pakistani expats and some Indians), which means that until there are more wealthy Pakistanis, there really isn't going to be much room for a huge fashion industry.
