The problem has long been there, and long be ignored as an abhorrent but mercifully rare phenomenon. Abhorrent, yes. Rare, no. Under a veil of shame and secrecy, incest has been an under-reported crime. This veil must be painfully lifted to help the victim and the offender.

i once read in a newspaper that three sisters were raped by their father, uncle and grandfather....
their case was reported though and all three men punished....
Unfortunately, I believe incest is not so rare, and even worse, the perpetrators are rarely found out ... and even more rarely they are punished.
The reason you don't hear about this in the East is that social taboos are much stronger.
Usually the victims are women and the perpetrators are men, which makes it even more likely that the facts are not brought to light.

Incest is a large hidden problem in India also. In majority of the case it is girl child abuse. It is essential that we need to root out this evil. But, how can we find out about incest.
I had attended a workshop organised in Bangalore on Protection of the child. In the Subcontinent, girl child is the most abused. Many times the perpetrators of the crime are brothers, uncles, cousins etc.
Look out for these signs in your children, they might be telling something.
1. Sudden change in the academic performance of the child.
2. The child starts speaking / uttering words which are forbidden.
3. Explicit sexual activitiy/Behaviour in the child.
4. Sudden physical changes like rapid increase or decrease in weight of the child.
My question to you is what can you do when you get to know of incest of a child???

Armaghul i m not sure if a lock up/beat up could change them.. Such ppl need help. Sad though , we dont have any such insitutions which could treat these ppl’s psychy

i heard of a story in pakistan where a guy was so desperate he tried to rape his sister, she appealed to his sense of islam, sisterhood et etc in shame he was about to turn the light off for the deed and electrocuted himself on the spot... well the electricity and the dodgy wiring were contributory, and ALLAH is always watching!
