Inaccurate Decision of ISNA’s Fiqh Council Creates Controversy

Re: Inaccurate Decision of ISNA’s Fiqh Council Creates Controversy

MKF: every place has its own new moon birth... I hope you know that much of astronomy.

Whatever you said after knowing all this is all C.R.A.P.

moonsighting needs to be local and in accordance with scientific calculation. Makkah's moon is not for AMericas. Simple as it is. Ask any astronomer than coming up with your own reasoning that has no scientific basis to say the least.

Re: Inaccurate Decision of ISNA’s Fiqh Council Creates Controversy

where i have said that there is any scientific basis for it.

what i have said that there is no where written in Quran or Hadith that world can not agree to one moon sighting and has to have its own moon sighting in each geographical location. That practically renders the implementation of calendar impossible. Than you can only celebrate eid on this calendar and nothing else, use solar calendar for rest of the activities.

However the able scholar has stated that we need not to implemet the lunar calendar in our daily lives, so be it, if that is the case no problem, what i was suggesting that this may lead to practical implementation of our calendar to fulfill the ayat where it has been explicitly stated that the phases of moon are signs for your to determine time & date. if i am wrong on that account, no problem own moon, own eid, why to fight and quarrel

Re: Inaccurate Decision of ISNA’s Fiqh Council Creates Controversy

can any one tell me that what is the criteria for saying five daily prayers & ramadhan near the poles? once the sun does not go down for consecutive 6 months how do people offer their, fajr, Maghrib & Isha prayers and open and break fast? What about the darkness phase?

I am trying to see that if some Ijtehad has been done for those areas or they are exempted of ramadhan in darkness or have a fast of six months in lighted phase?

Re: Inaccurate Decision of ISNA’s Fiqh Council Creates Controversy

I asked the same question on GS last year during ramadan.

Re: Inaccurate Decision of ISNA’s Fiqh Council Creates Controversy

Although I don't have a resource at hand to back up my claim (at the moment), but I remember reading that under such a circumstance the people of such a region should go with the normal/ideal timings of a city/country closest to where they live.

Re: Inaccurate Decision of ISNA’s Fiqh Council Creates Controversy

I think a lot of people have still missed the argument here. Some of us are saying what prevents us from agreeing to a central authority for announcing moon sighting, which all the muslims in the world will follow. No one is saying to replace sighting with calculations i.e. don't try to sight the moon. The point is when are we going to start behave as a single nation of muslims. If the moon has been sighted anywhere on this is earth then it has been born and this is confirmed from the ahadith as well when the caravan from Syria arrived and the Prophet SAW started Ramadan based on their testimony though he did not sight the moon himself. So this proves sighting in other regions is valid for muslims in other regions. So for those who sight the moon can notify all those behind in the timeline to begin Ramadan. Those are were ahead in the timeline will naturally start the next day. The fact that the testimony of other muslims should be accepted is not given any weight by our village mulla's. And the astronomical data can also be used to ascertain the veracity of a sighting however people do not like to exposed as fools, which is why they are vehemently opposed to using astronomical data at all. For instance, in NWFP, could they have not relied on the first moon sighting they had in the province rather than going by three different sightings. It amazes me how selective our village mulla's are in hadith. To make there point they will rely on one hadith and completely disregard the others that render their stance weak or meaningless.

My vote for the argument above

Re: Inaccurate Decision of ISNA’s Fiqh Council Creates Controversy

Now the moon sighter club is silent. Will we have to wait for the next Hilal to be born to get a reply.
