wow those pics are gorgeous. i went to istanbul in august 2008, for my honeymoon. its so beautiful there. i visited the same places u did. i love those lights, got two for my place but when i got back there was no place to put them :(
thanks. i actually didnt buy the lamps due to lack of space and now i so regret it. I wish i cud've. After i came back, i looked everywhere to see if i can buy the ones i want but i cudnt find any. Turkey was amazing, but i didnt enjoy the food that much. did u get a chance to watch the whirling dervishes?
yup! we just went. it was amazing. there is a lot more to turkey then istanbul! we started in istanbul stayed there a day, then went to ankara, which was okay, they have this city on the hill which is gorgous and was totally worht just strolling around, there is literally homes build on top of other homes and ruins of old kila's. then we went to capodocia (they have underground cities and gorgeous old churches built inside caves (these were largely built by early christians escaping the wrath of the romans), then we went to seljuck (for ephesus, its an ancient roman/ greek city) you can walk through. you can rome around in it and picture what the folks living there must have felt. its amazing the architechture and how advanced they were. how tall the pillars are in some places. they had proper toilets, with drainage and all - built so rain water would do all the flushing so to speak. public bathrooms so everyone just sort of sat in the toilet seats next to other folks. then from there we went antalyia, which is a very touristy place, but it was fun we did a boat ride and other very touristy things. stayed at a beutiful hotel, way out of our price range but b/c it was winter season and eco. wasn't doing to well we got the manaer to reduce it alot! then from there we went back to istanbul! and stayed there for the remainder of the trip!!!
it was fun. we just went in november into december. ironically left here around thanksgiving.
Oh I didn't see the whirling dirvish but bought hand paintined whirling dirvishes in the grand bazaar. We spent the first three days site seeing in the old city, blue mosque, Haiga sophia, topkapi palace, grand bazaar, spice market. Rest of the time we spent in the main city which I guess is more modern. Forgot the exact name of the places, but went on a boat ride in the river, saw palaces, went to that street with all the famous designer boutiques which is their version of 5th avenue.
We went to a restaurant there, named kosebasi, it's pretty famous there and has amazing food, all meat. Went to another restaurant which is actually five restaurants all in one place that serve differnt cuisines, built right under the bridge, open air. That restaurant was definitely one of the highlights of the whole trip but it was pretty pricey. I wanted to go to more cities but we didn't have enough time and we didn't wanna run around.

I remember while walking on seaside in Istanbul (bosphorus) my guide used to tell me in broken english........ooooorrrrrpppaaaa.......aaaaaaasssssia.... like Asya muslim name......I said what??? He points with his hand........this is ooooooorrrrrpaaaaaa and opposite to sea aaaaaaaaasiiiaaaa. After a few minutes I figured he said " Europa - Asia". I loved it. What a beautiful city!
I agree with Deer, there is so much more to Turkey than Istanbul, we spent 2 weeks driving up and down the Aegean coast to Izmir, Troy, Kusadasi, Ephesus, ancient Biblical and Quranic cities, just fantastic.
