In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

say a bunch of people in a store or coffee shop see the brown(all shades light to dark) and start to say some snide remarks of “muslims being a certain way”

or use racist words like “pakis”(which i know is a racist word for indians, pakistanis, brown people in general) and start heckling you from a distance, just to show their hate/ignorant bigotry to you.

what would be your immediate reaction to it? would you react to it with anger or would you ignore it?

subtle racism like a white old lady clutches her purse as soon as she sees you walking beside her.

i haven’t experienced such in your face type of racism, the subtle types occasionally.

Re: In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

its hard to say what my reaction would be because, like urself, i haven't ever experienced the slightest bit of racism... but I'd prolly just smile and walk off... nothing would piss em off more! :) <---- creepy smile.

Re: In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

that’s one cute creepy smile :cb:

if it was the heckling or some racist abusive words by white or black americans, i would give them an angry smile to show that i’m majorly pissed off but i would most likely not do the whole “defending of all brown people of all religions” speech like in the movies, i would walk away all wimpy :teary2: and go home and cry like a baby because i didn’t stand up to them.

:frowning: it’s one of the things on my self improvement list though

Re: In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

Jokes aside ! It all depends on 'YOU' and you alone.

Racism or any other kind of bullying starts to take root "when you show slightest of you concern verbally of physically. Either reaction will escalate situation beyond your control.
Best to just stay calm and avoid the slightest of hints that you heard or are concerned.

Re: In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

I do not know why peopel cry when called a Paki or whatever. You know what you are and be proud of it! I think people get too upset when they are called racist names and it just shows how insecure people feel about belonging to a certain race or colour.

It is different if you are constantly and regularly targeted by a certain individual or group as that is bullying.

If someone calls me a Paki or uses it in an offensive way I turn around and say I am Turkish, Egyptian, Moroccan, Indian etc ...that leaves them baffled!

Re: In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

^ all good posts above.

Best to ignore. No point arguing with retards.

Only take a stand when things get really serious.

Re: In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

depends on the situation completely.
As raindance said, response could be provocation and engagement so if its a bunch of people and I am alone and in a place where I can get my arse whooped without getting much help, then I will just ignore it and go about my life. If i feel secure enough that the person/people cant really do anything my reaction could range from a condescending smile to a condescending laugh with a shake of head to statements about ignorance, or make some counter smartass response. I am not into correcting people or giving some lecture on stereotyping..all I know is that in situations where someone has taken liberty to make some comment about my religion or race in a group, they have regretted it because my response has left people laughing at the perp and creating a situation where the person cant even respond back, cuz its over and I have his number.

-------------cvabn------------

I know this cos I had fought street battles in East London when I was in College .
Even now this kind of racism exists in UK and some other European countries. In Canada or USA this kind of verbal racism is very rare and very well guarded by 'Charter of Rights and Equality (Canada)
I can not say the same for UK though.

Re: In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

I was once working outside in an unfamiliar residential area and felt hungry. I saw a group of 5-6 White Northern Chavs about aged in their mid-teens but a few nearly tall as me. They were eating crisps. So as they walked past me i asked them "is there a shop around here?". The middle one who was also the tallest opened his mouth and gave me a very mischievous look and said "there is a Paki shop around the corner!" I just said thanks. There was a shop and the owner was an Indian. By chance I saw them lads again and as they walked past cockily I said "Thanks fo telling me where the shop was But I had one problem - it was nt a paki shop but an Indian one" The rest of the lads fell about laughing at their ring leader and i just walked off!

Playign on ignorance is the best thing. If you are going to insult me then why are you calling me the wrong insult!

Re: In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

i really don’t mind being called a pakistani, bangladeshi, or whatever south asian country out there, i’ve even been mistaken for hispanic lots of times. that’s not racism, people have thought i was pakistani too. no big deal, i don’t mind, “paki” is different from “pakistani”

but i’m talkin something like this on the phone or face to face. and i’m sure pakistan has a few call centers too so i bet it might have happened there too.

i was shocked after hearing it, looks like the States where this radio show is at and i’m hoping he’s fired but doesn’t look like it

Re: In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

darn though it's these smartass responses that i wish i could come up with at the spur of the moment and during these times. just to shut em up and get them to see that we shall not be bullied.

Re: In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

I inform them I am sleeping with a white woman. Enough to piss them off :D

Re: In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

Indians and Pakistanis, but specially Indians are more racist than the white peeps.

Re: In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

I dont like racism and if i'm heckled as i have been before the reaction depends on the hecklers.

One time i was only hearing abuse from a bunch of kids... so i just spat and walked on....

Another time it was a bunch of adults and they were looking for a fight.... four against one... fair odds for me... i just charged in and floored the ring leader.... the rest went running.

Fact is if it's directed at me in just words then i might just do the sensible thing and walk off... but if they mix violence into the pot then i'll react with more skill and violence than they ever could dream of....

Fact is i like a fight sometimes, i wont look for a fight but if anyone wants a fight then i wont let them say they didn't get one...

I never had many friends who would stand beside me so if i see another person being savaged by a pack of racists i'll dive right in and help myself.

I have often ended up on the worng side of the law though.... the knack is using reasonable force... Most western laws only allow you to push back if your pushed and so on....

If some racist pushes you or punches you and you floor him and then put him in a lock and snap off his collarbone, or stomp and grind in his hands then expect to face the whole ton of bricks at court.... that said if the other guy had a baseball bat you had no choice but to yank his arm out of it's socket.

Thing is against women racists i have no choice but to walk away... if pursued i can only throw something heavy thier way... that should stop the pursuit.

I wish i had the brainpower of X2 bhai but fact is sometimes i'm not as good at diplomacy and tact as i am at CQC.

Re: In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

It’s quite funny, Star and Buck Wilde are actually 2 black guys, I’ve searched around the net and people have complained about all the racist stuff they’ve said about blacks, they are just being racist for the hell of it and trying to come out as un PC to boost ratings. Pretty lame attempt They are trying to be like Howard Stern. But this incident is alot worse because they really were cruel to the woman on the phone, very pathetic of them

Re: In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

I'm sleeping with a white woman - who happens to be your sister!

Re: In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

^ Glory.

Re: In the nonvirtual World, how would you respond to Racism?

i knew the man was black just by the way he was talking. white or black a man talking to a woman like that disregarding her race, ethnicity, accent whatever is disgraceful. i'm surprised i didn't hear about this sooner on the news somewhere. Black people even if they've gone through discrimination racism, are just as prejudiced as the white manor any human being, i hope he doesn't get excused just because he's a black man.

i have an american accent since i grew up here but still the way he was heckling her and abusing her about the way she was talking and the insults he flung at her, i felt her pain, he should be kicked off the show. there were even women in the background laughing, complete despicable lowlifes
