^ im sorry, it might be proven to your mind, probably because you belong to that school of thought. the hadees that mentions ahl e bayt as part of what the Prophet left for Muslims excludes the wives explicitly, for Sunnis and Shias. there is no dispute about that, nor is there any other sahih hadees to my knowledge that has the Prophet leaving the ahl-e-bayt for guidance, inclluding the wives.
The argument in that thread was on whether the purified ahl-e-bayt included the wives. as for the basis of purification, read the thread, its a verse from the Quran.
