In Other Rooms, Other Wonders

If it has not been discussed already, I would like to introduce another excellent Pakistani-American writer: Daniyal Mueenuddin. I had the chance to read his newest book “In Other Rooms, Other Wonders” on a transatlantic flight. Although I always try to support Pakistani writers, I was very pleasantly surprised to find his writing to be excellent as well. Without giving too much away, I would say that th book is a series of short stories, giving multi-faceted view of Pakistani society.

To get an idea of his writing, read “Our Lady of Paris” Zoetrope: All-Story: Back Issue

Daniyal’s website: Daniyal Mueenuddin

Please support his work by buying a copy: Amazon.com: In Other Rooms, Other Wonders: Daniyal Mueenuddin: Books (The amazon reviews speak for themselves)

From an earlier post on the thread ‘Pakistani Authors’

Three of his short stories were published in the newyorker.

Nice. Ironically, I had started that thread as well.

I am a big supporter of Pakistani writers in English.

Re: In Other Rooms, Other Wonders

^ did you ever check out the ones i recommended?

I did. I thought Color of Mehndi was excellent.

Re: In Other Rooms, Other Wonders

^ awesome, glad u liked it.

now if i could only remmeber it. :hinna:

Oh snap you forgot it already

Anyway do check out Daniyal’s short stories in the New Yorker. You know both Daniyal and Mohsin (Hamid) were in NYC a month or two ago. They spoke at the Asia Society, too bad I was traveling and could not make, I really wanted to chat for a bit.

I know that there must be more talented Pakistani-American/British/Expat writers out there, just need to encourage them to come out into the literary world.

Both guys are lawyers by training…interesting

And so is Barack Obama who made $4.2 million last year by writing books.
